Paul Miller’s Law has officially been established in Pennsylvania—a major step forward in promoting safer roads and preventing distracted driving and enforcement will begin on June 6th.

This law prohibits the use of handheld mobile devices while driving, even when stopped at red lights or in traffic. This includes texting, calling, taking photos, emailing, and scrolling through social media. Drivers may still use hands-free technology, such as voice-activated systems or mounted devices.

✅ Emergency exception: Calls or messages to 911 or emergency services are allowed.
⚖️ Beginning June 6, 2026, offenders will face a $50 fine plus court costs and fees.
🚨 In serious cases, if distracted driving leads to a homicide by vehicle conviction, offenders could face up to five additional years in prison.

The law also updates state statute (75 Pa.C.S.A. § 3316) to include “interactive mobile device” language while maintaining the prohibition on texting and driving, with limited exceptions for emergencies.

This important legislation honors Paul Miller’s legacy by helping keep drivers focused and our communities safe. 💙
