New public art celebrating Mountain View’s history and cultural diversity was installed in May at the Mountain View train depot building. Through a partnership between the City of Mountain View, Arts Mountain View, and the Valley Transportation Authority, a series of colorful panels created by Bay Area artist John Patrick Thomas now wrap portions of the depot building.

The City is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the public-private partnership that made this project possible.

Thursday, June 11 at 3:00 p.m.
Mountain View Transit Center, Evelyn Avenue and Castro Street

The installation adds vibrancy to this highly visible gateway and creates a more welcoming experience for the thousands of residents, workers, and visitors who pass through the area each day.

The City of Mountain View plans to celebrate Affordable Housing Month all year long by adding a record number of affordable housing developments and units in 2026. The City’s ongoing commitment to housing was recently demonstrated by this year’s first project, a 120-unit, 100% affordable development called Corso.

On May 27, the City joined representatives from Related California, Alta Housing, the State of California, the County of Santa Clara, the Housing Authority of Santa Clara County, and other partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Corso. The 5-story, signature residential development is transit-oriented, located in Downtown across from the Mountain View Public Library, and will feature local public art. The City contributed $23.5 million and donated the land, which was a City-owned parking lot, for this affordable housing project.

This week, the City of Mountain View celebrated the graduation of 18 residents who completed the Chinese Language Civic Leadership Academy. This is the third time that the City has offered this civic leadership academy, which is offered in English and Chinese.

The program is designed to enhance participants' understanding of local government and City services as well as encourage civic engagement, leadership, and volunteerism in the community.

The City’s Academy program was launched in 2017 with the Spanish Language Civic Leadership Academy. The initiative reflects the City Council's commitment to building a “Community for All.” To date, over 200 bilingual residents have successfully completed the program.

The City of Mountain View celebrated National Public Works Week with a display of tools and equipment at Mountain View City Hall, a Public Works-themed storytime at the Mountain View Public Library that attracted over 200 attendees, and an open house at the Municipal Operations Center that was attended by almost 300 people.

All of this highlighted the incredible work Public Works employees do day in and day out, year-round. This includes maintaining City streets, sidewalks, parks, and sewers; managing water resources; and supporting sustainability efforts; among many other things.

The City thanks its Public Works employees for the important services they provide for our community!

On May 27, the City of Mountain View joined representatives from Related California, Alta Housing, the State of California, the County of Santa Clara, the Housing Authority of Santa Clara County, and other partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Corso, a 120-unit affordable housing development in Downtown Mountain View.

When completed in early 2028, Corso will transform a 1.56-acre, City-owned parking lot into a five-story residential development featuring studios to three-bedroom apartments for households and families earning between 30% to 60% AMI. Twenty units will be set aside for households transitioning out of homelessness, 10 will be designated for permanent supportive housing, and 15 apartments will be for households with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This signature development will also include local public art and be the first fully affordable housing development to incorporate this feature.
