TRAIL UPDATE, effective December 11, 2024, until January 31, 2025

South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Pond Project at Pond A1 – Material Import

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the California State Coastal Conservancy, and Ducks Unlimited will begin the initial construction phase of the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Pond Project at Pond A1, located immediately north of Shoreline Park and east of Charleston Slough. Pond A1 will be restored from open-water ponds enclosed by levees to tidal marsh by allowing sediment to settle in the pond so marsh plants can establish. The project will establish tidal marsh habitat, construct new habitat islands and improve existing levees. In this initial construction phase, the contractor will establish an access route and construct a new temporary access ramp at the northern limit of Shoreline Park, adjacent to the Bay Trail, for material transport to the project area in Pond A1.

Pond A1 Access Route

To access Pond A1, trucks will be traveling along San Antonio Road, onto Terminal Boulevard, and then into Shoreline Park on paved trails. Daily interruptions and closures to sections of Shoreline Park trails (including a section of the Bay Trail) are expected between 7:30 A.M and 4 P.M weekdays.

The Bay Trail and most Shoreline Park trails will be accessible when no hauling or construction is occurring. A short section of Shoreline Park trail will be closed during times when material is being actively delivered to the pond. Temporary signs and flaggers will be placed at the Bay Trail, at relevant Shoreline Park trails, and at the Terminal Boulevard entrance to manage truck traffic and trail user access.

TRAIL CLOSURE UPDATE 2/5/24: The section of Stevens Creek Trail between Sleeper Ave Trailhead and El Camino Real Trailhead is closed following last night's storm. A power line fell on this section of trail, and has not been fully addressed by PG&E.

Parks and Public Safety are working with PG&E to address the situation and make the area safe. Those trying to get on the trail are being redirected. The trail closure is listed on the website www.mountainview.gov/trails. We’ll provide additional information as we have updates, or once the section can be reopened.

The City of Mountain View manages over 10 and a half miles of paved (Class 1) trails along the Stevens Creek and Permanente Creek, Hetch Hetchy, and Bay Trails. Here are a few tips for enjoying the Shoreline celebration:
Parking lots inside the regional park will be closed during the event.
Parking will be available in lots along Shoreline Boulevard near the park entrance.
Free shuttle service will be provided from 10:45 a.m.-5 p.m. on a continuous basis.

No dogs or domesticated animals are allowed inside the park.
No drones are allowed.

At the celebration, event goers will learn about the history of the Shoreline Regional Park Community, which Shoreline at Mountain View is a part of, and why it was established as a Special Park District by the state legislature in 1969. They will discover Shoreline's transformation from an auto wrecking yard, a landfill and a hog farm into the recreational and environmental jewel we know and love today. They will also find out about the vision of the Shoreline Community, which will bring forth dynamic, new neighborhoods containing housing, retail establishments, city and educational facilities, and new parks while preserving its natural heritage.
