educational programs touch all segments of our society: youth, families, community and, yes, farmers. The Extension faculty work hard to meet the needs of the people they serve, leaving nothing undone that might contribute toward success. Our classrooms are found in open fields or on the tailgate of a pickup. You will find us among Arkansas' 33 million acres of crops, livestock and natural resources. You will find us in conference centers and public schools, community centers and courthouses, in the classroom and in the lab. That is why "Arkansas is Our Campus." It’s the time of year when algae is blooming and the aquatic w**ds are taking off. If you’re looking to control aquatic w**ds, proper identification and selecting the right product is an important part of control.

This pond contained water primrose and filamentous algae.

Treated on April 7th 2026 with a tank mix of a copper complex (Cutrine Plus) and aquatic glyphosate. Rate: 1% Aquatic glyphosate + 0.6 gal/acre ft Cutrine Plus (low density filamentous algae growth rate).

These products don’t spread throughout a pond, how we think most would think. For good control good coverage is required (Reason treatments fail)

Algae is a single celled organism. It’s pretty easy to kill, however, it’s easy to come back. If a pond continues to have an algae bloom. It may be a nutrient or runoff issue, that needs to be addressed. (You can also use shading products such as aquatic dyes to prevent sunlight from feeding the algae.)

On this pond we’ve got good control on water primrose so far and excellent control on algae. We will watch it another week and will retreat the missed w**ds and see how well early w**d control lasts throughout the summer.
