-Stone County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Mountain View Man Following Child Exploitation Investigation-

In April 2025, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office received a tip indicating that child s*xual exploitation material was being distributed from a device located within Stone County. Upon receiving this information, Lieutenant Jenifer Osborn initiated an investigation to determine the source and validity of the tip.

Following several months of detailed investigative work, Lieutenant Osborn was able to identify the device and corresponding IP address connected to the suspected activity, tracing it to a residence. Based on these findings, Lieutenant Osborn obtained a search warrant for the residence located on Herpel Road.

On Monday, November 3, 2025, Detectives with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant at the residence. During the warrant, Kris Aaron Copeland, age 47, of Mountain View, was taken into custody. Copeland has been charged with the following:

* Two (2) counts of Distributing, Possessing, Viewing Matter Depicting S*xually Explicit Conduct Involving a Child, both Class “C” Felonies.

His bond has been set at $25,000. The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed or existing charges modified pending a final review by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. All final Charges are determined by the Prosecutors Office, and bond amounts are set by a Judge. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Last week, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office had the privilege of visiting our local schools as part of the Red Ribbon Campaign and Drug Awareness initiative. This was a wonderful opportunity to help educate our youth about the dangers of drug use and to engage in meaningful prevention activities. The Red Ribbon Campaign, held each October, focuses on raising awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and promoting a DRUG FREE community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Timbo, Mountain View, and Fox Schools for welcoming us and allowing us to participate in this important program. Special thanks also to Sergeant Eric Moore, Deputy Chris Clark, and local Minister Finis Brewer for their efforts in helping deliver this vital message.

And of course, a big thank-you to K9 Lucca, who received plenty of well-deserved pets from the students, she definitely earned them!

We look forward to visiting again very soon!

The Stone County Sheriff’s Office was proud to take part in the 43rd Annual Bean Festival & Outhouse Races this past weekend. Despite a little rain, it was a fun day filled with laughter, great food, and the kind of small town spirit that makes Stone County such a special place to call home. Aside from rendering security, several members of the Sheriff’s Office joined in the festivities, and participated in the famous outhouse race.

We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Roger Barker for providing our outhouse racer, as well as to the many organizers, volunteers, and participants who made this year’s festival such a success. A special shout-out also goes to the Twisted Mule for our fantastic shirts and to our very own race team: Lieutenant Jenifer Osborn behind the wheel, with Deputies Chris Qualls and Marvin Browder as her dedicated “potty pushers.”

We are truly grateful to serve a community that values togetherness, creativity, and good humor. Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to live and work in such a great county.
