The Rootshús is moving forward.
After nearly eight years of planning and dreaming, Icelandic Roots is bringing a permanent home for Icelandic heritage to life. The Rootshús will house collections, artifacts, a library, and the stories of Icelandic settlement across North America. Groundbreaking is set for August 1, 2026, with the grand opening planned for July 31, 2027 during the Deuce of August Celebration in Mountain, North Dakota.

The volunteer work crew did their yearly cleaning of the statue at Thingvalla Memorial Site. It was a beautiful North Dakota night and after washing, waxing and buffing, the statue is protected and beautiful for a anyone stopping by for a peaceful visit. The prairie garden is growing and hopefully there is rain in the near future to bring out the blooms.

"Many eyes go through the meadow, but few see the flowers in it."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The wild flowers and native grasses are blooming at the Thingvalla Memorial Site Living Prairie Garden!.
This living prairie is symbolic of what our pioneer ancestors saw when they first arrived from Iceland and reminds us to look for beauty in the small and hidden places.
