PETITIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE
NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF THE VILLAGE OF MOWEAQUA
The Consolidated Election will be held on April 6, 2027. Village Residents that are interested in serving on the Village Council may pick up a nominating petition at the Village Hall on, or any time after August 25, 2026. The following positions will be up for election:
President for unexpired 2 year term
(3) Trustees for 4 yr term (full term)
(1) Trustee for unexpired 2 yr term
Petitions must be filed with the Village Clerk between Monday, November 16, 2026 at 8:00 A.M. and Monday November 23, 2026 at 5:00 P.M.

Just a reminder of what is NOT accepted at the dumpster: Appliances, electronics, tires, construction material. These items are only accepted during clean up days in May. Many area scrappers will pick up your used appliances, some auto repairs places will accept old tires. If this continues to happen the gate will be locked and only opened by appointment. Thank you for your cooperation.

Street & Alley Superintendent
The Village of Moweaqua is seeking a motivated, dependable, and experienced individual to serve as its Street & Alley Superintendent. This full-time position is responsible for planning, supervising, and participating in the maintenance and operation of the Village's streets, alleys, storm drainage systems, rights-of-way, and other public infrastructure.
The Superintendent oversees Public Works operations, supervises department personnel, operates and maintains heavy equipment, coordinates snow and ice removal, and responds to emergency situations as needed. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills who takes pride in serving the community.
This full-time position offers a starting salary of $26- $32 per hour, dependent upon qualifications, experience, and education. The Village provides a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, participation in IMRF, three personal days, ten sick days, and vacation leave.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, road maintenance, construction, or a related field. Supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake and Tanker (N) endorsements.
• Illinois Mosquito Right-of-Way Pesticide Applicator License, or the ability to obtain and maintain the license within six (6) months of hire.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment and perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to respond to emergencies, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and snow events.
• Possess or acquire Class B water license within 3 years of employment
• Possess or acquire a Class 4 Wastewater Operator Certificate within 3 years of employment
• The ability to maintain good relations with the public during the course of performing duties
• Supervisory experience

The Village of Moweaqua is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief of Police.
The Village of Moweaqua, with a population of approximately 1,800 residents, is located in Shelby County approximately 12 miles south of Decatur. Moweaqua is a welcoming residential communtiy recognized for its strong schools, local businesses, and community pride. Village amenities include a public library, golf course, grocery store, thriving youth and school athletic programs and a variety of small businesses.
This full time position offers a salary of $35.00-$40.00 per hour, dependent upon qualifications, experience and education. The Village provides comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, participation in IMRF, three personal days, ten sick days and vacation leave.
The successful candidate will reside within 30 miles of Moweaqua, and possess the following skills and experience:
* Minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience with demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities. "Experience in a small community preferred"
* Candidates should exhibit strong interpersonal and communications skills and maintain a visible, approachable presence within the community.
* Experience in financial and departmental management
* Personnel supervision skills
* Experience with collaboration with neighboring law enforcement agencies and mutual aid organizations.
* A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business administration, or a related field is preferred.

The Village of Moweaqua Board of Trustees and employees would like to thank Mr. Brad Sams for his dedicated service over the past seven years as our Street Department Supervisor.

Today marks Brad's last day with the Village as he begins a well-earned retirement. We are grateful for his hard work, leadership, and commitment to our community, and we wish him nothing but the very best in this next chapter.

As if retirement wasn't enough to celebrate, today is also Brad's birthday! 🎉 Happy Birthday and Happy Retirement, Brad! We hope you enjoy spending time at the cabin and making many wonderful memories. Thank you for everything, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and relaxing retirement!
