Mukwonago Professional Firefighters Local 4585 would like to give some updates since the referendum has passed. Mukwonago Fire been working on hiring the much needed 3 Firefighter/Paramedics ( one hired in Feb) and 3 Firefighter/EMTs (one hired in March and the other two with an anticipated start date in May).
Recently the Town of Mukwonago has decided to expand the Town of Mukwonago Police department. This “expansion” is actually reducing the size of the Mukwonago Fire Department from 7 bays, one office, and 2 storage rooms, laundry room, and training area to just 3 bays, no office area, no training area or storage inside the current Town hall. Local 4585 feels that it is interesting with the current increase in staffing that the Town of Mukwonago would not want to upgrade the Fire Department with the Police Department to make it live-able for both departments (sleeping quarters, kitchen, bathrooms, etc) so that the Fire Department can actually respond out of the Town department. Instead they are reducing space for the Fire Department, therefore is making more equipment to be housed at the Village station. Local 4585 feels this is an unfortunate disservice to the the Town residents because if the municipality were to make the Town station live-able, response times would decrease substantially to residents who need us most. Time is everything in an emergency.
Many residents have said that the town station is just a storage station or no one responds out of this station and the reason is many of our members live out of the town or village of Mukwonago and need to stay at the station. In the last 5 years the Village has upgraded the Village Fire Station to add more housing for staff .
