Please be aware of the current county fire bans going on.

Due to extremely dry conditions, dangerously hot temperatures, low humidity and strong winds, Sedgwick County Fire District 1 has implemented a burn ban effective IMMEDIATELY. All Fire District cities in Sedgwick County, in addition to the cities of Valley Center, Colwich, Mt. Hope, Cheney, Clearwater and Mulvane, have implemented a burn ban.

This is a combined effort of all full-time and volunteer fire departments in Sedgwick County to combat the current dangerous fire conditions. No outdoor burning is allowed including any open burns, chimeneas and/or other outdoor fireplaces. Active burn permits will be suspended, and no new burn permits will be issued. This burn ban does not include fires used for food preparation such as barbecue grills.

SCFD1 will evaluate the status of fire weather conditions weekly and will rescind the ban when conditions have improved.

Violations of the burn ban will be taken seriously, and violators could be cited for non-compliance. Please contact your local fire department with questions, concerns and/or to learn more about preventing a wildland fire near your home.

Thank you for doing your part to stop grass fires and in turn, keep our communities and our first responders safe.

The parade rolled through downtown this morning and it did not disappoint. So many great floats out there today. Thanks to everyone who came out to line the streets and everyone who put a float together, you made it a good one.

Old Settlers isn’t slowing down either. Quilt show and arts and crafts fair are still going, carnival’s back open, and tonight brings live music, the rodeo, and the street dance downtown.

That carnival buzz tonight is everything 🎡 Old Settlers is officially rolling.

Friday’s a big one, so clear your schedule. Turtle races and kids events kick off at 8 at Fairchild Park, quilt show opens at 10, and the Arts & Crafts Fair sets up on Main Street at noon. Carnival’s back open at noon too. Then once evening hits: Little Miss Pioneer at 6:45, live music from Across The Pond Band at 7:15, rodeo at 8, and the street dance closes it out at 9:30.

Come hang out with us downtown tomorrow.
