"Toward Freedom & Fairness" is a guided tour that traces the complicated history of enslavement and freedom in the Genesee Valley.

You'll hear the stories of real individuals from Western New York, stories that remind us of the strength and humanity of those who persevered, who built businesses, invented, advocated, and transformed society in ways that continue to resonate today.

✨ Toward Freedom & Fairness, Saturdays & Sundays at 1 p.m. This tour is included with your Museum general admission, with stops in the Toll House, Towar Land Office, Quaker Meeting House, Livingston-Backus House, and Nathaniel Rochester House.

On September 11, 1826, roque Freemason William Morgan was kidnapped in Batavia, NY, after threatening to publish the secret rituals of the order. He was never seen again. 👀

Now, exactly 200 years later, you can experience the story of “The Morgan Affair,” and the scandal that led to the creation of America’s first third party, changing the course of American political history. The affair has direct connections to several buildings in the Village, and our historic interpreters will lead you on a dramatic and winding tale of history come to life.

📰 Brotherhood & Betrayal After-Hours Tours, Friday & Saturday, September 11 & 12.

About that storm last night...👀

Our security folks took this amazing photo at around 7:30 p.m., just before the rain came down and the wind kicked up.

After a wild evening, with thankfully no damage or downed tree limbs here, it's a beautiful day today, and the weekend is looking perfect for Saturday's Hop Harvest Festival!

Time to harvest some hops!

The Hop Harvest Festival: Bines & Vines is a time to celebrate the early fall harvest and all things hops and grapes.

🍺Bring the family and join in on the harvest to help our costumed interpreters in the Hop Yard.
🍞 Stop in historic kitchens to see the cooks at work on a community harvest meal.
📚 Learn the importance of hops as a crop in 19th-century New York State.
🎶 Enjoy live music and German dancing.
🌭 Grab a bite to eat (we're grilling up specialty hot dogs all day!) and sample some beverages from local breweries, wineries, distilleries, and meaderies, plus our own historic brews.

🍻The Hop Harvest Festival, Saturday, September 5. Tickets are at https://gcv.pulse.ly/uhqbhvzrxc

Your festival ticket is your Museum ticket, so take the time to explore the Historic Village, the John L. Wehle Gallery exhibits, and the Nature Center habitats and trails!

Special thanks to event sponsor Rohrbach Brewing Company.

These shoes are keeping it one hundred💯

We're continuing our project to re-photograph everything in the Bruce & Susan Greenn Costume Collection and have another treasure to share!

This pair of kid leather evening slippers dates to the time the United States was celebrating our Centennial in the 1870s, and their design deliberately hearkens back to 1776 with the large, decorative buckle. They were sold by Hewes & McCann, a shoe store in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Greene Collection is one of the largest and finest collections of historic clothing and textiles in the country, and you can see highlights when you visit the John L. Wehle Gallery or search the collection online: https://gcv.pulse.ly/rmkhunpjyg
