We’ve been out throughout the township today assessing conditions, and we’re happy to report that, at this time, the water has receded from the roadways.
Please remember that standing and flowing water can still be extremely dangerous. Avoid flooded areas, waterways, and any remaining standing water whenever possible.

While this event is being described as a historic, potentially 100- to 1,000-year flood, we are taking every opportunity to learn from it, evaluate our response, and use these experiences to improve our training and preparedness. Our goal is to continue strengthening our ability to serve and protect our community during future emergencies.

Thank you to everyone for your cooperation throughout this event. Please continue to stay safe and look out for one another.

With the significant rainfall and flooding our area has already received, flooding conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon and continue through the evening and overnight.
The White River is expected to crest this afternoon, with an additional 2–3 inches of rain forecast afterward.
We strongly urge anyone who has already experienced flooding or whose home is at risk to evacuate early. Please do not wait until rising water traps you in your home.
Emergency personnel are already staffing and preparing for worsening conditions. Waiting until flooding becomes severe makes evacuations and rescues significantly more dangerous and time-consuming for both residents and responders.
Please plan ahead, take the threat seriously, and get to a safe location before conditions deteriorate.

⚠️ Weather Safety Reminder ⚠️

Heavy rain has caused standing water and flooding in parts of our area. If you don’t have to travel, please stay home.

🚗 Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded roadways—you can’t tell how deep the water is or if the road has been washed out.

Please slow down, stay alert, and keep an eye on changing conditions. If you have an emergency, call 911.

Stay safe, everyone!

🚨⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT ⚠️🚨
Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in our area tonight. Damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and isolated tornadoes are all possible. Now is the time to prepare and stay weather aware.
🌩️ Before the storms arrive:
✅ Charge cell phones and portable devices.
✅ Secure outdoor furniture and loose objects.
✅ Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially while sleeping.
✅ Identify the safest place in your home—an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows.
✅ Check on elderly family members and neighbors.
⛈️ If a warning is issued:
🔹 Seek shelter immediately.
🔹 Stay away from windows.
🔹 Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around.
🔹 If you are outdoors, move to a sturdy building as quickly as possible.
🚒 Cowan Fire Department personnel will be monitoring conditions and stand ready to respond. Please stay alert, have a plan, and do not wait until the storm is on top of you to take action.
📱 Continue to monitor local forecasts and heed all watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service.
Stay weather aware. Stay prepared. Stay safe.
