For a limited time, DCHD is partnering with HML to provide well water testing to concerned flood-affected homeowners who use a well as their water source. This does NOT include those on a municipal water source aka "city water".

Pick up a sample kit from our office at 125 N Mulberry St. for $10*. Enter at the blue awning located at the Southwest corner of the building. Following the included instructions, collect your sample and submit it to HML for analysis.

If you suspect your well may have been contaminated following recent flooding, we strongly recommend disinfecting your well through chlorination PRIOR TO TESTING. The water test will then serve as confirmation of whether your well was successfully disinfected. Chlorination guidance can be found posted to our page on 8/18.

*Original price $28. Test includes total coliform and e.coli test only. Additional more advanced testing is available through HMl directly.

Contact your plumber of choice, use the instructions provided in this graphic from our friends at the Hamilton County Health Department, or visit this link to the Indiana Department of Health for their guidance document on well chlorination.

In the mean time, if you suspect contamination, we suggest boiling your water until you know its safe.
