Good afternoon,

Update regarding power restoration from last night’s storm:

• Total Outages in the Muncie area: 2,448.
• I&M crews are continuing to work to safely restore power and as of 1:00 p.m. approximately 34,975 customers are without power, down from a peak of about 62,000.
• Our restoration experts expect to have the majority of customers who can receive power in the Muncie area restored by 11:00 p.m. today.
• Damage assessment continues in other parts of our service area to determine restoration times for other communities. I&M is utilizing drones and helicopters, allowing us to more quickly assess damage in areas that are difficult for our crews to safely access by ground.

Please report any blocked roadways to Public Works at 765-747-4847 and any downed power lines to Indiana Michigan Power at 1-800-311-4634. For life threatening emergencies please call 911.

For disposal of brush and debris please place it near the roadside as the Muncie Sanitary District will be running additional pickup service.

The City of Muncie announces that Mayor Dan Ridenour has extended the appointment of Deputy Mayor Jeff Howe as Acting Executive while he continues to recover from a recent surgical procedure. Pursuant to an Order issued by Delaware County Circuit Court No. 1 on June 11, 2026, Howe will continue to exercise the powers and duties of the Mayor’s office during this temporary period.

Mayor Ridenour’s surgery went well and as expected, and he is currently at home healing comfortably. He remains the duly elected Mayor of Muncie, and the temporary appointment ensures continuity of government operations and city services while he focuses on health and healing.

The parade will follow the same route as the annual Light Up Muncie Parade, beginning at Muncie City Hall and concluding at Canan Commons.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 29, 2026 - City of Muncie Announces Temporary Designation of Acting Executive

MUNCIE, IN — Pursuant to Indiana Code 36-4-5-8, the City of Muncie announces the temporary designation of Deputy Mayor Jeff Howe as Acting Executive during Mayor Dan Ridenour’s upcoming medical leave.

As previously announced, Mayor Ridenour will be out of the office for surgery to treat recently discovered prostate cancer. Earlier this morning, Jeff Howe was formally appointed Deputy Mayor. In accordance with Indiana law, the temporary designation of Acting Executive will take effect at 12:00 a.m. on June 1, 2026, and will remain in place for fifteen days.

Mr. Howe will continue to serve in his current role as Director of the Muncie Redevelopment Commission while assuming the temporary responsibilities of Acting Executive.

“The City of Muncie wishes Mayor Ridenour prayers for a smooth procedure and a quick recovery,” said Amber Greene, Director of Communications. “We eagerly await his return and are confident in Mr. Howe’s leadership and abilities during this temporary transition.”
