Our Social Workers, Ashley and Sally, are regularly out in the community delivering food to individuals and families who may not have access to it otherwise 💙

Referrals for assistance like this often come from our officers in the field, but community members can also connect with our social workers by calling dispatch and requesting to speak with one.

This ongoing work is a reflection of strong partnerships—meeting needs, building trust, and showing up for our community in meaningful ways every day.

A special thank you to Blood and Fire and the Church of the Nazarene for their continued generosity and support. Partnerships like these make this kind of outreach possible!

After 8 impactful weeks and 30 hours of hands-on learning, the Muncie Police Department’s Next Gen Academy officially wrapped up this past Thursday! 👏

This program, led by Community Engagement Officer Arin Phillips, provided students—selected based on their interest in future careers in public safety, criminal justice, and leadership—with an immersive, real-world learning experience.

This year’s cohort represented a diverse group of future attorneys, forensic psychologists, law enforcement officers, and dispatchers—each bringing their own perspective, curiosity, and passion for service.

Throughout the academy, students explored criminal law, investigations, forensics, crisis response, and digital safety. They practiced evidence collection, analyzed real-world scenarios, and learned the importance of communication and de-escalation in high-stress situations, while building leadership and teamwork skills along the way.

Students also toured City Hall, experienced one of the best views in Muncie from the Mayor’s office, and connected with local community and criminal justice leaders during a panel discussion.

The program concluded with a capstone experience where students worked together to solve a crime scene and then presented and defended their findings in a courtroom setting. 👏⚖️

We extend a sincere thank you to the many community leaders and partners who poured into our students throughout these 8 weeks.

A special thank you to Muncie Central High School and the Muncie Chamber of Commerce for your continued support and partnership.

We are incredibly proud of these students and the growth they demonstrated. The future of our community is bright 💙

Recently, our dedicated social workers spent time at Craddock Nature Preserve helping clean up an abandoned campsite. While the individuals who had been staying there have since moved on, personal belongings and debris were left behind.

Our team regularly visits this area to build relationships and provide long-term assistance, connecting individuals to resources, support services, and pathways toward stability. Caring for our community means showing up consistently — both in moments of outreach and in moments of restoration.

We are especially grateful to the Sanitation District for partnering with us in this cleanup effort. Your support helps keep our shared spaces safe and welcoming for everyone.

Thank you to all who continue working toward a healthier, stronger community.

💙 Noah Update! 💙

This weekend, we had the pleasure of welcoming Noah and his family to the Muncie Police Department — and we’re pretty sure he was running the place by the end of the visit.

Noah and his family received a tour of the department, learned a little about MPD and what we do, and asked some great questions along the way. He even brought his baby sister — and if you remember, when we first met Noah at Menards, he shared that he just wanted to buy her some baby dolls. Big heart, big brother energy 💙

From checking out the building and meeting officers to hopping into a police vehicle, taking the podium, and walking away with some pretty cool goodies, Noah made the most of every moment. And let’s be honest… that uniform is top tier 😎👮‍♂️

A huge thank you to Noah’s lovely family for making the trip in to see us — we truly appreciate you taking the time to spend part of your weekend with us.

Moments like this are what community connection is all about. Noah, thank you for your kindness and for spending the day with us. Something tells us he’ll be running things in no time — and we’ll say we knew him first 😉

💙

🎄🧡 This is what Christmas is really about.

While shopping for gifts at Menards for the Pacers event, we met our newest friend, Noah. Without hesitation, Noah told us he wanted to donate his own money to help other kids. He shared that he loves police officers and simply wanted to help however he could.

Moments like that stop you in your tracks.

Noah, thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and your big heart. We are so grateful to have met you—and we can’t wait to welcome you for a visit to the police department soon so we can give you the best day ever. 🚓✨

Experiences like this are a powerful reminder of what this season is truly about: compassion, generosity, and looking out for one another. This was hands-down one of the coolest moments of this entire experience. 🧡🎄

🧡 What a day for our community. 🏀✨

Last Tuesday, December 9, families and volunteers braved the cold to come together for a day filled with joy, connection, and community. Because of an incredible group of partners, volunteers, and supporters, we were able to provide gifts for several hundred children in our community—creating moments that will be remembered long after the day ended.

A huge thank you to the Indiana Pacers for making this event possible and for continuing to invest in communities like ours. We were thrilled to welcome the Pacemates, Boomer, and Freddy Fever, who brought energy, excitement, and big smiles to our kids. We also want to thank Hylton’s Crazy Bargains for their generous toy donations, and PetSmart for donating a ton of adorable stuffed animals that quickly became crowd favorites.

This event would not have happened without strong community partnerships. We are incredibly thankful to the Family Resource Center, led by Loryn Craig, for their partnership in putting this event together. We also extend sincere thanks to Deputy Prosecutor Maricel Driscoll and Sharan Abdullah (Girl Scouts) for their unwavering partnership and continued support—your commitment to families and community truly shows.

We’re grateful to Muncie Community Schools and Inspire Academy, including their family navigators, teachers, and administrators, for helping identify families and ensuring this event reached those who needed it most.

Thank you to Muncie Central High School for hosting us, and to Justin Oliver, Assistant Principal, for his help and support with the venue. We also appreciate the Ball State University athletes, members of Kappa Delta sorority and DCS volunteers who gave their time and energy—your presence made a meaningful difference.

Behind the scenes, we want to recognize MPD Officer Gavin Greene and MPD Domestic Violence Coordinator Kameron Petro-Shaw for their hard work and dedication in helping everything run smoothly. We also thank the Muncie Sanitation District for allowing us to borrow a box truck to transport toys—logistics like that matter more than people realize.

Finally, thank you to Chief Sloan, Deputy Chief Melissa Criswell, and Deputy Chief Deegan, as well as the City of Muncie and Mayor Ridenour, for their continued leadership and support of community-centered work.

This was truly a team effort—and a powerful reminder that even on the coldest days, our community shows up. 🧡❄️
