Today, all shifts completed Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training taught by instructors from UT Health Science Center. NRP is specialized training focused on the resuscitation and care of newborns, including premature infants, during those critical first moments of life. While these calls are rare, they are among the most challenging emergencies we can face in the prehospital setting.

A big thank you to our outstanding instructors, Cheyenne, Anna, and Brittney, for sharing their knowledge and experience.

Day 3 wraps up an incredible week of Fire Camp

Our last day was all about EMS and 911, and we were lucky to have some great partners help make it special. Our friends from Priority Ambulance gave the campers a hands on look inside an ambulance and talked about what it’s like to provide emergency medical care. Tipton County 911 Director Curtis Mayo taught the kids when to call 911, what information to give, and why those details matter. WING also stopped by with their helicopter and crew, giving everyone an up-close look at the equipment and explaining the important role they play in emergency response.

To top it all off, our neighbors at Atoka Fire Department brought a truck over to help cool everyone off after a busy day of learning.

A huge thank you to all of our partners who volunteered their time this week, and to all of the kids who made Fire Camp such a fun experience.

Day 2 of Fire Camp is complete.

Today we learned why staying in shape is such an important part of being a firefighter. They also got a taste of the less glamorous side of the job by cleaning equipment and rolling hose.

After that, things picked up as they got to “force” doors, followed a hose line to safety, and worked together on advancing a charged hose line. We wrapped up the day by cooling everyone off with a little water to make sure they didn’t get too hot.

Day 1 of Fire Camp was a success.

Today the kids got a behind the scenes tour of the fire station, took their shot at the firefighter “2-minute drill,” learned a little fire service history by working a bucket brigade, and got to spray water from one of our fire trucks.

They had a lot of fun, asked some great questions, and kept our firefighters on their toes all day.

We’re looking forward to the rest of the week!

Congratulations to Chief Richard Griggs on his retirement from the Covington Fire Department after 33 years of service. Thirty three years in this profession is something to be proud of, and it represents a lot of sacrifice, leadership, and commitment to serving the community. Even though Covington and Munford are on opposite ends of the county, the few times we’ve worked incidents together, it always went smoothly. That says a lot about the kind of department and leadership Chief Griggs helped build.

Chief Griggs, thank you for your service to Covington and to Tipton County as a whole. Wishing you all the best in retirement.

We want to congratulate Fire Chief Richard Griggs with the Covington, TN Fire Department for his retirement from 33 years of service for the City of Covington. Tomorrow is officially his last day. We all had a great time with friends and coworkers at the retirement party yesterday that was hosted by the City of Covington. We wish you the best as you move on to your next challenge. Thank you for the last 33 years of Friendship, Mentorship, and Leadership

Munford Fire Department proudly recognizes Brent Ruffin as our 2026 Firefighter of the Year.

Since joining the fire service in 2019, Brent has shown tremendous dedication to both his training and this profession. While continuing his fire training, he earned his Advanced EMT license and went on to complete paramedic school, all while balancing the demands of work and family.

Brent’s growth, work ethic, and commitment to serving our community have made a lasting impact on this department. We are proud to have him as a member of B Shift and as part of the Munford Fire family.

Congratulations, Brent, and thank you for all you do.

Munford Fire Department’s Fire Camp is here, and we’re excited to welcome kids ages 8–12 for 3 fun-filled days of learning and hands-on activities. Dates are July 13th-15th.
