We’re listening to the stories, experiences, hopes, and concerns of the people who call Munster home. Through conversations, events, and community activities, we’re creating opportunities for residents from all walks of life to share what matters most to them.

Our goal is simple, to build a stronger, more connected Munster by making sure the voices of our residents help shape our community’s future.

Member Spotlight: The Salvation Army Hammond-Munster Corps Community Center
WHEN OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS HELP, THE SALVATION ARMY SHOWS UP.

There are organizations that talk about serving others. And then there are those that are there when the call comes.

The Salvation Army is there.

In the aftermath of 9/11, The Salvation Army was among the first relief organizations to arrive at Ground Zero, alongside the American Red Cross, providing food, hydration, emotional and spiritual care, and support to first responders and survivors.
And when devastating storms and flooding recently impacted families throughout Lake and Porter counties, who was among the first on the scene meeting people where they were?

The Salvation Army providing food, flood kits, supplies and hope.

That commitment happens every single day across Northwest Indiana.

Through the East Chicago, Gary-Merrillville, Hammond-Munster and Porter County Corps Community Centers, The The Salvation Army USA helps individuals and families facing some of life's most difficult moments by providing food, emergency shelter, utility and prescription assistance, winter coats, back-to-school supplies and other critical resources.

But their impact reaches even further.

Their Angel Tree and Toy Shop and Coat Drive programs brought Christmas joy to more than 2,200 children throughout Lake and Porter counties.

Their feeding programs provide hundreds of local families with food and resources, including an evening pantry for working families in Hammond-Munster, a choice pantry in Gary-Merrillville and free weekday hot lunches in East Chicago.

Their youth programs build confidence, discipline and character through activities such as archery, recreation and tutoring.

At the 700-acre Hidden Falls Camp, children and seniors experience nature, friendship, mentorship, recreation and opportunities for spiritual growth.

And through Emergency Disaster Services, Salvation Army officers, employees and volunteers respond locally, regionally and nationally, providing emergency shelter, food, water, financial assistance and emotional and spiritual care when disaster strikes.

The Salvation Army doesn't wait for someone else to help.
They roll up their sleeves. They open their doors. They feed. They comfort. They pray. They serve. And when disaster strikes, they show up.

Northwest Indiana is a stronger and more compassionate community because of the men, women and volunteers of The Salvation Army.

Thank you for being there on people's hardest days and for reminding us what it truly means to Love Beyond. ❤️

Member Monday: A Social Center Recap

This week’s Member Monday spotlight will look a little different, but at its core, it’s what we are all about.

Members of our Board, committees, administration, and general membership organized efforts to host those in need yesterday at the Lions Social Center. From donors to volunteers, we had over 50 people come together to help serve close to 1,000 meals throughout the day.

The work started earlier in the week with constant phone calls, texts, and emails, followed by collecting donations, shopping, organizing, and prepping before the day even started.

Most of those who dedicated their time, money, and resources to pulling it off then left to check on their own businesses still in the dark or went home to their own hot, humid homes without power.

We cannot thank our members enough for their continued contributions and willingness to step up when our community needs it most.

Thank you for continuing to make Munster what it is.
