Severe Thunderstorm Watch: THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR: HUGHES, HYDE, JONES, STANLEY, AND SULLY COUNTIES THIS WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11:00 pm

A cold front sliding across the region this evening will be the focal point for showers and thunderstorms. Most locations will remain dry, but there is a 30 to 60 percent chance of precipitation as the front passes. A few stronger storms could produce golf ball size hail and wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph. The highest threat areas for these stronger storms are over south-central South Dakota (Pierre and south) and over northeastern South Dakota.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into the evening across northeast Wyoming and western South Dakota. A Slight Risk covers the eastern foothills down through the Pine Ridge/Martin area, with a Marginal Risk across much of the remaining region. Hazards include frequent lightning, damaging winds over 60 mph, heavy downpours, and hail larger than 1 inch. Stay alert, monitor conditions, and have a plan if storms approach.
