With extreme heat persisting, over 70% of Arkansas is now under a burn ban. Even with a permit, conditions remain unsafe — a single spark can ignite a wildfire.

WILDFIRE DANGER/BURN BANS—Latest wildfire danger and burn ban map across the state of Arkansas as of mid-day Tuesday. The entire state of Arkansas is almost completely under a burn ban with 67 of the 75 counties in Arkansas with an active burn ban in place.

Arkansans can now track where wildfires are burning and how the state is responding in real time. The Department has launched a new active wildfire dashboard that shows current and year‑to‑date wildfire totals, acreage impacted, and details for each incident, including locationand acreage.

As you use the dashboard to stay informed, please remember these important safety guidelines:

• Never approach or investigate a wildfire. Rapidly changing conditions such as intense smoke, heat, falling debris, and unpredictable winds make areas around active fires extremely dangerous.
• Do not fly drones near wildfires. Unauthorized drones ground firefighting aircraft, slow response, distract crews, and create serious airspace hazards.
• Follow all instructions from fire authorities and only enter affected areas once officials confirm it is safe.
• Report wildfires immediately to Forestry Dispatch at 1‑800‑468‑8834.

Good Thursday morning Southwest Arkansas. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for August 20th, 2026.

A mix of clouds and sun to Partly cloudy skies will be likely throughout the day. Highs will be in the upper 90s to low 100s. Daytime winds will come from the southwest around 5-15 mph. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon and evening. Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid 70s to low 80s. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Can’t rule out a strong to severe storm with damaging winds being the main threat.

All 75 Arkansas counties are currently at a moderate wildfire risk, and 23 counties have active burn bans. At the moderate level, fires that may have been routine a month ago can ignite more easily, spread faster, and require more resources to control. With excessive heat and dry conditions moving into the state, we expect fire risk to continue increasing.

We are urging all Arkansans to avoid outdoor burning, postpone any activities that could create sparks, secure trailer chains, avoid parking on dry grass, and follow all county burn bans and local restrictions.

Report any wildfire immediately to the Department’s Forestry Dispatch at 1‑800‑468‑8834.
