Community Helpers is a nonprofit agency whose purpose is to provide emergency financial assistance with utilities, rent, medicine, and connective resources for households in Rutherford County. Community Helpers conducted its first organizational meeting in May, 1981. Working with a small core of volunteers and an even smaller budget, service to the community began and officers were elected. The fi
rst contributions were received in October 1981 and 111 families were assisted during that first year. This Impact is made possible through funding by grants from Charity Circle, the Christy-Houston Foundation, and United Way, as well as donations from area churches, civic clubs, and individual contributions. Community Helpers also benefits from collective partnerships with Murfreesboro Electric, Atmos Energy, Consolidated Utilities District, and Middle Tennessee Electric.
