As we celebrate America 250 today, we wanted to highlight a few pieces of United States history that are housed in our Special Collections on the fourth floor. We hope you’ll stop by some time and experience our collections.

Murfreesboro's International Folk Fest is ongoing this week in and around town. Our Special Collections houses the event's archive as part of the Steve Cates Folk Dance Collection. The collection focuses on the history of the International Folkloric Society through papers, publications, newspapers, scrapbooks, photos, and artifacts. It is also interwoven with the history of the Kittrell 4-H Square Dancers, Rutherford County Square Dancers, and Cripple Creek Cloggers.

TOMORROW! Join us in Special Collections on the fourth floor to hear Dr. Laura Cochrane's gallery talk, "Crafting the Early Modern Book.” She will describe the specific craft traditions and knowledge that were used to create and decorate the earliest printed books. This talk is in conjunction with our Spring 2026 Exhibit, "The Art, Technology, and Craft of the Book", curated by Dr. Cochrane.


A reception with light refreshments will follow, along with an opportunity to view the exhibit.
