Unaka Volunteer Fire Department Volunteer rural fire department providing fire service, light rescue and medical first response

The Unaka Volunteer Fire Department began providing fire service to our community in 1983. In 2004, the department added a medical response vehicle and began providing emergency medical services to the community prior to the arrival of an ambulance. In 2017, Unaka VFD added light duty rescue and auto extrication equipment to their services in response to the closure of the Cherokee County Rescue S

quad. With a long history of service and a dedicated core group of volunteers, Unaka VFD continues to meet the new demands of the community.

We have a marginal chance of strong winds and large hail this afternoon. There should be updates released by NWS later that we will share.

Strong winds can mean power outage so charge up your devices and have your weather app for notifications.

Locally heavy rains today and tomorrow. Some wind gusts may occur today.
Monday we could have some stronger thunderstorms.

05/27/2026

Please remind your family that creeks and rivers can be dangerous after heavy rains. They flow faster, have debris in the water, banks can be slippery and you can also get trapped underwater.

A 10 year old boy in Chattanooga has drowned.
Watch out for your pets too.

RAIN DROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD

National Weather Service says this holiday weekend will not be a washout but keep an umbrella or rain jacket handy. Thunderstorms are likely at times every day.

Having a weather app that follows your location is helpful if you have cell service and are not near a shelter. Otherwise a weather radio or local radio can help you stay informed.
