We are happy to announce our department was awarded a smoke detector grant by the N.C. Office of the State Fire Marshal. We have a limited number of smoke detectors available for any resident in need. Every home should have an operational smoke detector on every level of your home, inside every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area (like in a hallway). Keep in mind, you should replace all smoke detectors every 10 years. Even if the unit chirps or the test button still makes a sound, the internal sensors degrade over time due to dust and humidity, meaning they may fail to detect smoke quickly during a fire. Tonight our members, along with some members from our sister department, Hiwassee Dam Fire Department, received CPR, AED, and first aid training. We want to thank Chad McNabb for coming to teach the class and to Tri-County Community College for facilitating the class. And as always, thank you to all of our members for your dedication and giving your time to serve our community.

Today, the members of Wolf Creek Fire Department joins the entire wildland firefighting community in mourning the tragic loss of three wildland firefighters who died in the line of duty while responding to the Knowles and Gore Fires along the Colorado-Utah border.

Our hearts are with their families, friends, fellow firefighters, and all those who knew and served alongside them. We also pray for the full and speedy recovery of the two firefighters who were injured.

Today, we honor these firefighters, their sacrifice, and the lasting impact they leave on the wildland fire community.

Please join us in keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.
