Tomorrow, We Welcome Our Students Back! ❤️📚🎉

Cherokee County Schools families, the wait is almost over! Tomorrow, our hallways and classrooms will once again be filled with the smiles, energy, and excitement of our students, and I could not be more excited to welcome them back for a brand-new school year!

As your Superintendent, I am incredibly honored to serve our students, families, and staff. I am looking forward to watching our children learn, grow, discover new opportunities, and reach goals they may not even know they are capable of achieving yet.

As we begin this school year, I want to share a few important reminders with our families:

🍎 Breakfast, Lunch & Super Snack are FREE!
Every student in Cherokee County Schools receives breakfast, lunch, and a Super Snack at no cost each school day. We want to make sure every child has the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

📚 Attendance Matters!
Being at school every day, arriving on time, and remaining at school for the full school day are all important to your child’s success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school regularly, arrives on time, and stays engaged in learning throughout the entire school day.

📖 Reading at Home Matters!
For our elementary families, please make reading a part of your daily routine. Read to your child, have your child read to you, or simply listen as they practice reading. Developing strong reading fluency and comprehension is vital to success not only in literacy, but across every subject. Literacy is the foundation upon which all learning is built.

🚌 Please Help Us Keep Drop-Off & Pick-Up Safe!
For families who bring their children to school, please remember that we cannot block state highways during parent drop-off or pick-up. Keeping these roadways clear is critical for the safety of our students and families and ensures emergency vehicles have unobstructed access when responding to calls. Please follow your school’s traffic procedures and be patient as we work together to keep everyone safe.

📞 Keep Your School Updated!
Please make sure your child’s school has current emergency contact information and accurate information about how your child will go home each afternoon. If transportation plans change, please communicate those changes with the school according to your school’s procedures.

Most importantly, I want every Cherokee County Schools family to know this:

Your child is our child. ❤️

We share the responsibility for your child’s learning and success WITH you. Our teachers, administrators, support staff, and entire school community are committed to being active members of your child’s academic team. We have an amazing group of educators who are eager to welcome your children, build relationships with them and you, challenge them, encourage them, and help them become the strongest learners they can be. We are also here to support you support your child’s learning. When you have questions, reach out to your child’s teacher. They don’t know your questions unless you reach out with them. We want to work WITH you to help your child succeed!

I am so excited about the year ahead and all the amazing growth I know our students will make. Thank you for trusting us with your children and for partnering with us in their education.

Welcome back, Cherokee County Schools! Tomorrow is the beginning of what I believe will be an incredible year!

Let’s make it a great one! ❤️💙📚

Your child is our child, and together, we will help them soar!

Help Us Celebrate Our Cherokee County Schools Team! ❤️💙

As we prepare to welcome our staff back for a new school year, we are excited to bring everyone together for an Opening Session on August 18th. This special event will give us an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments across our district, learn together, hear from some wonderful guest speakers, and begin the year united as one team committed to serving our students and community.

Our Opening Session will include professional learning on important topics, including legal updates, recognizing the latest va**ng devices and marketing strategies used to influence children toward harmful substances, as well as an inspiring motivational message to help us begin the year with a positive outlook for ourselves and our students.

As we look ahead to the school year, we also want to find meaningful ways to recognize and celebrate our amazing teachers and staff throughout the year. One way we hope to do that is through door prizes and staff appreciation drawings.

We would love your help!

If your business or organization would like to support this effort, we would be grateful for donations such as:

🎁 Gift cards to your local business
🍽️ Gift cards to local restaurants sponsored by your business
🛍️ Merchandise or gift baskets
💙 Monetary donations to help us purchase items for staff celebrations
🎉 Other items you feel would be a great way to recognize and celebrate our team

This is not an ask we make often, but we know how much our community values our educators and school staff. We want to give our team members a little extra encouragement, appreciation, and excitement as they begin another important year of making a difference in the lives of our students.

Your support would not only help us celebrate our staff, but would also provide a wonderful opportunity to highlight and promote the businesses and organizations that make Cherokee County such a special place to live and work.

If you would like to contribute, please contact:

Associate Superintendent Kim Gibson

Or if you know one of our other directors more personally, you are welcome to reach out to them.

You may also call the Cherokee County Schools Central Office at 828-837-2722. Mrs. Kristie Allison can connect you with us or let us know if you would like someone from our district to stop by your business to pick up your donation.

Thank you, Cherokee County, for the countless ways you support our schools, educators, and students. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and generosity as we work to start this school year with positivity, encouragement, and a strong sense of community.

We can’t wait to welcome our staff back tomorrow and come together as one team on August 18th and start the new school year with our students back on August 24th!

Let’s make it a great year, Cherokee County! ❤️💙

Thank you!!

📅 Planning Ahead for a Successful School Year!

Yesterday, our district leadership team came together to kick off the new school year with a shared focus on supporting student success. One important topic of discussion was the value of good student attendance and the role it plays in helping students stay engaged, connected, and on track for learning.

Last night, the Cherokee County Schools Board of Education also approved amendments to our Attendance Policy (Policy 4400), reinforcing our commitment to supporting strong attendance across all grade levels and schools.

As part of this effort, our district leadership team wanted to provide families with a helpful tool for planning ahead. We created a calendar highlighting scheduled days off, early dismissals, teacher workdays, holidays, and other opportunities that create longer breaks from school.

Our hope is that this calendar will help families plan vacations, appointments, and other activities around the school calendar whenever possible, allowing students to enjoy those opportunities without missing valuable instructional time.

We encourage families to take a look, plan ahead, and make every school day count! ❤️📚

Thank you for partnering with Cherokee County Schools to support strong attendance and student success!
