The Murphy Ministerial Association was formed in 1974 after Murphy a tornado devastated the area. After financially helping the people who needed help, donated money was leftover. The pastors in town decided to put this money into what now is called the Good Samaritan Fund to help people in need. They also decided that churches needed to support each other and support the fund. To do this, they be
gan to meet monthly and give one another support. They found a treasurer that would pay the bills. When someone came to them with a need, they were helped. Several years later Andrews formed the same kind of fund. Shortly after the formation of the Andrews fund, the two associations joined together making the Cherokee County Ministerial Association (CCMA). Through the years, the CCMA has helped to form the Hulbert-Johnson Friendship Homeless Shelter. We are also a part of the Jail Ministry and the Mustard Seed devotional in the Andrews Journal and Cherokee Scout. The Good Samaritan Fund helps people who need help with electric/water bills in emergency situations. It is used to provide lodging (If homeless shelter is full) or a meal at a local restaurant for those passing through the area. It helps with medicine when the CCMA is contacted by Social Services or Health Dept. We also help with gas for cars and fuel for homes. The Ministerial Association manages money donated to the Good Samaritan Fund by setting limits on amounts given and the frequency that families are helped and by diligently checking out the people we help. If you would like to contribute to the Good Samaritan Fund, please mail your check to PO Box 1422, Murphy, NC 28906
