Veterans Day 2025 // On this Veteran’s Day, we remember and honor those who have served and sacrificed so much for our freedoms. Though our paths may differ, we are united by a shared duty to uphold the values they defended: Service, integrity, and devotion to something greater than ourselves.

Through the families and children of those who served in World War I, the interwar years, World War II, Korea, Viet Nam, the Cold War and late-century interventions, Desert Storm, the post–Cold War peacekeeping era, and the long years of the Global War on Terror, we have come to understand the quiet strength and enduring duty that service instills. Their legacy reminds us that freedom is not inherited lightly, but safeguarded through the courage of those willing to serve.

To all veterans — from the greatest generation to those serving today — we extend our deepest gratitude. Your courage, faith, and hope continue to inspire us all.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY 2025
BEST! TEAM! EVER!!!

The deputy circuit clerks at the Office of the Jackson County Circuit Clerk are AMAZING!

Yes, I'm biased because they're my crew but these are the best, most professional, and genuine people I could ever hope to work with. They are the gold standard for clerks in our region and I appreciate their hard work, dedication, and ownership of their specialties.

Thank you very much Amanda, Audra, Barb D, Barb F, Chelle, Cheyenne, David, Eleanor, Katie, Keileigh, Melissa, Renee, and Rhonda. Couldn't do it without you all! - Christian

LAWYER IN THE LIBRARY // Each month at local public libraries in the First Judicial Circuit, volunteer attorneys are working to help self-represented litigants through the Lawyer in the Library program.

The Lawyer in the Library program provides patrons needing help with a legal issue the opportunity to sit down with an attorney for a private, one-on-one, 20-minute session, and receive advice or help with legal documents.

There is no fee but pre-registration is required at most locations. On the date of your session, check in at the library registration desk and bring paperwork pertaining to your legal question or situation, if applicable.

For more information about the program, or to pre-register to speak to an attorney, you may call the Carbondale Public Library at 618-457-0354 (Attorneys Christine Heins and Gene Turk)

Thank you to the following for their support of this program: Chief Judge William J. Thurston, First Circuit Judges and Circuit Clerks, Volunteer Attorneys, Library Directors, Library Program Coordinators, and other library staff members.

Each Lawyer in the Library program is initially launched with a Self-Represented Litigant/Access to Justice Improvement Grant funding through the Access to Justice Division, Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts. The programs continue with each Volunteer Attorney coordinating with the Library and the Office of the Chief Judge, Brenda Sprague, Administrative Assistant and ATJ Grant Coordinator. www.firstcircuitil.org

APRIL 1 MUNICIPAL & TOWNSHIP ELECTIONS // Municipal and township elections are important but often overlooked compared to Presidential and Midterm elections. Don't forget to vote, whether early or day of. It's between you and the deity of your choice (or the lack thereof) when you get in that voting booth. Ain't nobody's business but your own!
