Today we conducted a pinning ceremony for Trista Winebarger who was recently promoted to the position of Detective Sergeant. Sergeant Winebarger has over 10 years of experience in law enforcement with our agency and has shown that she will be a great leader for our investigations unit. Her new badge was pinned on to her by her husband.

We have also recently assigned Tristan Jones to the position of Detective. Detective Jones has 5 years of law enforcement experience with our agency and will be a valuable asset to the department and community in his new role. Please join us in congratulating both Sergeant Winebarger and Detective Jones on their new positions.

We are just one week away from our annual Community Night! We will have even more inflatables this year for the kids to play on for free, and many first responder agencies and local groups will be there to deliver a fun night for the whole family. We'll also have two food trucks, so you can get dinner while you're there. Come out on Tuesday, September 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Chestnut Park.

As Murray Independent School District’s schools have started up for the year, the Murray Police Department asks motorists to consider avoiding a portion of Main Street during school drop-off and pick-up times, when possible.

Our schools do an excellent job moving students in and out of their campuses safely and efficiently while trying to prevent roadway congestion. By choosing an alternate route for just a short period each morning and afternoon, you can help reduce congestion, avoid delays, and allow students to get to and from school as quickly and safely as possible.

Main Street between 16th and 18th Streets
Morning: 6:50–7:20 AM
Afternoon: 2:15–2:45 PM
We understand that avoiding this street may not be possible for everyone. However, if you are able to take an alternate route during these times, it may save you time while also helping reduce traffic around our schools.

Come out and join us for the annual Murray Police Department Community Night on September 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Chestnut Park! There will be many local first responder agencies, community organizations, and other groups that provide services to our community. It will be a fun night for the family!

On August 17th, 2026 the Murray Police Department responded to an address on Sunset Drive in Murray in regards to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female with an apparent gunshot wound. A suspect, Russell Cleaver, 45, of Murray, was located at the scene and detained. The victim was transported by EMS to the Murray Calloway County Hospital. Cleaver was later charged with Attempted Murder and lodged in the Calloway County Jail. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Murray Police Department would like to remind everyone that any person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Murray Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred on the west side of Murray. A suspect is in custody, and there is no threat to the public. More information will be released as it becomes available.

On 8/7/2026 around 12:36 AM, an officer with the Murray Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on North 12th Street. During the traffic stop, the department’s K9, Bonnie, alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine. As a result of the investigation, the operator of the vehicle, Jacob Thweatt (45) of Murray, KY, was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Controlled Substances 1st Degree (Methamphetamine).
