The Calloway County Health Department is now offering Fluoride Dental Varnish to our pediatric patients.

Fluoride varnishes are primarily used as a decay prevention therapy for pediatric patients and persons at a high-risk for tooth decay.

Individuals who benefit the most from fluoride varnish include children, ages 0 through 5 years who have a family history of decay, low levels of fluoride in their drinking water or limited access to dental care. The fluoride varnish should be applied 2 times a year.

Mold will grow where there is moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been a flood. Mold grows on paper, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.

If you see or smell mold, you should remove it. You do not need to know the type of mold. If mold is growing in your home, you need to clean up the mold and fix the moisture problem.

Mold can be removed from hard surfaces with household products, soap and water, or a bleach solution of no more than 1 cup of household laundry bleach in 1 gallon of water.

If you use bleach:
• Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners. This will produce a poisonous gas.
• Follow manufacturers' instructions when you use bleach or any other cleaning product.
• Open windows and doors to provide fresh air.
• Wear rubber boots, rubber gloves, and goggles during cleanup.

Unfortunately, these delayed actions lead to many of the lightning deaths and injuries in the U.S. The best way for you to protect yourself from lightning is to avoid the threat. You simply don’t want to be caught outside in a storm.

Have a lightning safety plan and it is important to understand that there is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm.
