The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
This escalation is driven by the rare Bundibugyo strain of the virus, which has now crossed borders from the Ituri province of the DRC into Kampala, Uganda. Unlike the more common Zaire ebolavirus strain, there are currently no approved vaccines or targeted therapeutics for the Bundibugyo strain.
Tracking a cross-border outbreak requires identifying cases inside the critical early window before the virus spreads through communities and health systems.
BioFire Defense is committed to supporting global health security in these high-stakes environments. The BIOFIRE® Global Fever Special Pathogens (GFSP) Panel is built for exactly this type of crisis, delivering laboratory-grade identification of rare, high-consequence pathogens, including Ebola, in under an hour.
By putting fast, comprehensive, and accurate testing directly in the hands of clinical teams, we provide actionable intelligence when every minute counts toward containment.
