Murray Calloway Co. Ambulance

Murray Calloway Co. Ambulance Our team of dedicated EMTs,Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics are committed to care 24/7 It was privately owned by a Mr. Jack York from 1973-1980. In 1979, Mr.

Murray–Calloway County Emergency Medical Services (MCCEMS) is proud to serve the citizens and visitors of Calloway County with compassionate,high-quality prehospital care. History of Murray-Calloway County EMS

The first Ambulance Service operating in Murray- Calloway was Mercy Professional Ambulance. During this time the service only offered Basic Life Support. York realized that the service as

a private entity could not keep up with the demands of a growing community. So he sold the Certificate of Need to Murray- Calloway County Hospital. The new name of the service was Murray-Calloway County Hospital- Ambulance Service. The service began operating under the new name on January 1st, 1980. As times changed and the need for higher advanced care in the prehospital setting, the service began operating as an Advanced Life Support agency on a ‘part time ‘basis. They soon realized that this concept was not benefiting the citizens of Calloway County and the Director; Jerry Gorrel began teaching paramedic Programs at the Hospital to move the department into a full time ability of ALS 24/7. In 1988 the service instituted a 24 hour per day/7 days a week with ALS coverage. Today, Murray- Calloway County EMS is owned and operated by Murray-Calloway County Hospital. The service is responsible for all Emergency and Non-Emergency request inside Calloway County. In addition, the service is responsible for all interfacility transfers originating from Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Murray-Calloway County EMS is a not for profit charitable organization. We are licensed by the Kentucky Board of EMS to provide a Class I advanced life support and basic life support ground ambulance service to Murray-Calloway County Hospital. Murray-Calloway County EMS is governed by a Board of Directors that receives no compensation for their function on the Board.

EMS Week isn’t about lights and sirens.
It’s about the people behind them.

The ones who leave dinner tables cold.
The ones who miss birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and bedtime stories because someone else’s worst day became our responsibility.

It’s the medic who hasn’t slept in 22 hours but still kneels beside a scared patient and says, “I’ve got you.”
It’s the EMT carrying the weight of calls they never talk about.
It’s the crews laughing in the truck one minute and fighting to save a life the next.

People see the ambulance.
They don’t always see the exhaustion.
The missed meals.
The PTSD.
The silent ride home after a bad call.
The tears wiped away before walking into the next one.

EMS is not just a profession.
It’s sacrifice.
It’s compassion under pressure.
It’s carrying humanity on your shoulders when yours is running empty.

This week, we honor every EMT, AEMT, paramedic, dispatcher, supervisor, educator, first responder, and retired provider who gave pieces of themselves so others could have another chance.

To the ones still standing after everything this job takes from you:
Thank you.

And to the ones we’ve lost along the way — the ones who carried too much for too long — we remember you too.

Happy EMS Week to the people who answer the call, no matter the hour, no matter the cost.

Honoring our past. Inspiring our future.

Last night marked the final shift at Murray-Calloway County EMS for AEMT Mason Roach. Since joining MCCEMS in 2024, Mason has consistently set the standard for professionalism, dedication, and excellence in patient care. His work ethic, compassion, and commitment to being the best provider possible have made a lasting impact on our service, his coworkers, and the patients he has cared for.

Fittingly, during his final shift, Mason responded to a call for a patient in cardiac arrest. Through the efforts of the responding crews, ROSC was obtained prior to arrival at the hospital — a powerful reminder of the dedication and skill Mason has brought to this profession every single shift.

This weekend, Mason will graduate cm laude from Murray State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology/Pre-Med, and next year will begin medical school as he continues pursuing his passion for serving others through medicine.

While we are sad to see him leave MCCEMS, we could not be more proud of all he has accomplished and the bright future ahead of him. We have no doubt Mason will continue to make a difference wherever his journey takes him.

Thank you, Mason, for your hard work, leadership, and dedication to our community. The community is better place because of you. Congratulations, and best of luck to you! Your MCCEMS family will always be cheering you on!

We love you Pookie!

Today, crews from Murray-Calloway County EMS and the Murray Fire Department came together for an important Mental Health for First Responders training, hosted by our very own Paramedic George Cruz.

This training focused on recognizing the unique mental health challenges first responders face every day and building the tools needed to support not only our patients—but each other. From stress management to peer support, today was a reminder that taking care of ourselves is just as important as taking care of our community.

We’re proud to invest in the well-being of our crews and thankful to George for sharing his knowledge, leadership, and passion for mental health awareness. Strong responders start with strong support.

Today, Murray-Calloway County EMS was proud to provide standby medical coverage for the Special Olympics event right here in Murray.

We are incredibly honored to be a part of such an inspiring day—supporting athletes who embody courage, determination, and true sportsmanship. The Special Olympics continues to create life-changing opportunities through competition, inclusion, and community, bringing together athletes of all abilities to showcase their talents and perseverance.

Our crews always appreciate the opportunity to serve events like this, and today was no exception. Seeing the smiles, the effort, and the heart from every athlete reminds us why we do what we do.

Thank you to everyone who made today possible, and especially to the athletes—you are an inspiration to us all!

Our next shift highlight is BLUE SHIFT! 💙🩵

They show up, get it done, and manage to keep the trucks moving, the patients taken care of, and the station laughing—all in the same shift. Whether it’s a slow day or absolute chaos, Blue Shift handles it with skill, consistency, and just enough sarcasm to keep things interesting.

They’re the crew you want when it’s busy, the crew you trust when it’s serious, and the crew that somehow still finds a way to argue about food in between calls.

All jokes aside—this team sets the standard. The dedication, teamwork, and pride they bring to Murray-Calloway County EMS does not go unnoticed.

💙 We appreciate everything you do, Blue Shift. Keep raising the bar. 💙

This week, we proudly recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week—a time to honor the calm, steady voices behind every call for help.

Our dispatchers are the true first first responders. They are the ones who answer the call in moments of chaos, providing reassurance, gathering critical information, and guiding both the public and our crews when seconds matter most. Their ability to stay composed under pressure makes a difference in every single call we respond to.

Today, we had the privilege of delivering gift baskets filled with goodies as a small token of our appreciation. While it’s a simple gesture, it comes from a place of deep respect and gratitude for everything they do—not just this week, but every day.

To our telecommunicators: thank you for your dedication, your professionalism, and your unwavering commitment to our crews and the community we serve. We couldn’t do our jobs without you.
