Remembering Dolly Parton, a true champion of literacy π
Horry County Schools joins the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, a legend whose heart for children reached far beyond music. Through her Imagination Library, Dolly spread the joy of reading for over 31 years, donating more than 300 million books since its inception. Right here in South Carolina, over 57,000 children are currently enrolled, sparking imaginations and building a lifelong love of books, one free book at a time.
Her belief in the power of literacy mirrors everything we stand for through , our countywide movement built on the belief that every child in Horry County deserves the opportunity to be a strong, confident reader. Dolly understood what we know to be true: literacy is a shared responsibility, carried by families, schools, and communities together.
As we work toward our goal of 95% of HCS students reading at or above grade level by 2030, we carry her legacy forward - one book, one child, one reader at a time.
Thank you, Dolly, for believing in our children. π
