History was made Saturday night as we celebrated the graduation of Class Genesis, our very first recruit academy.

Ten recruits completed the 24-week training program, demonstrating perseverance, discipline, and commitment to service. The future of our department is stronger because of them.

Special recognition goes to:
Valedictorian: Louis McGowan
Physical Fitness Award: Chase Clark
Leadership Award: Gabriella Shea

This class joins us during a particularly meaningful year as we mark 60 years of service to our community. What a fitting way to honor our past while investing in our future.

Congratulations, Class Genesis—you’ve set the bar and started a legacy.

Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District Achieves CAAS Accreditation with Perfect Score

Murrells Inlet, SC — The Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District is proud to announce it has earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS), achieving a perfect score during the review process.

This prestigious, three-year designation reflects the highest standards in emergency medical services and places the District among an elite group of EMS providers nationwide.

Based on current CAAS records, the Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District is the first Fire/EMS agency in the Carolinas to receive this designation, marking a significant milestone for emergency medical services in the region.

CAAS accreditation is a comprehensive, independent evaluation of an agency’s clinical care, operational performance, safety practices, and organizational accountability. Earning this distinction demonstrates the District’s commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, and high-quality patient care.

As a continuous improvement model, CAAS accreditation supports the District in identifying opportunities, strengthening systems, and ensuring long-term organizational sustainability. It reinforces a culture of accountability and helps position the agency to meet the evolving needs of the community it serves.

The Murrells Inlet–Garden City Fire District extends its appreciation to its personnel whose hard work and commitment made this accomplishment possible.

Surf Rescue crews are on patrol today!

If you see us out on the beach, give us a wave and say hello. Our crews are monitoring conditions, assisting beachgoers, and helping to keep our beaches safe.

Beach Safety Tip: Before getting in the water, take a moment to identify a landmark directly behind you. Ocean currents can move swimmers down the beach faster than most people realize, especially children. Have a safe day and enjoy the beach!

KING TIDE ALERT

A heightened risk for minor coastal flooding is expected around Friday, May 15 through Saturday, May 16 due to higher astronomical tides near the May 16 new moon.

Low-lying roads, parking areas, docks, and marsh-front areas may see saltwater around high tide. Use caution, avoid driving through flooded areas, and move vehicles from flood-prone spots.

Today, Recruit Class Genesis completed a memorial PT workout honoring fallen Chicago Fire Department firefighter Michael Altman, who gave his life in the line of duty this March.

The workout was built around “47,” reminding us that sacrifice is never forgotten.

Strong work by the class today.

Never forget.
