The U.S. Flag Code formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag, and also contains specific instructions on how the flag is not to be used.

• On special days, the flag may be flown at half-staff. On Memorial Day it is flown at half-staff until noon and then raised.

• When flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. By "half-staff" is meant lowering the flag to one-half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff.

Backyard pools are the center of summer fun, but they also require constant vigilance. As we kick off the season this Memorial Day weekend, remember that a "quick second" away from the pool is all it takes for a situation to become dangerous.

Let’s keep the celebrations safe by following these layers of protection for your home pool.

Stay safe, Murrieta

Incredible news out of the CFED Conference! 🥉🔥
Please join us in congratulating Murrieta Fire & Rescue Paramedics Wyatt Barnard and Jeremy Spiker!

These two just took 3rd Place in a grueling, statewide Paramedic Competition. They went head-to-head against 11 elite teams from across California, pushing through an arduous, two-day skills challenge that tested their advanced life support knowledge, clinical skills, and decision-making under intense pressure.

We couldn’t be prouder of their dedication, expertise, and the outstanding way they represented our department and community on the state stage. Outstanding work, gentlemen!

Water safety requires multiple layers of protection. While fences and alarms are vital, they are not a substitute for active supervision.

The Water Watcher program ensures that an adult is always focused on the swimmers. Whether it is a backyard pool, a community center, or a trip to the lake, designate a watcher.
