Introducing a weekly cross stitch group as part of our summer reading program! 🧵

Join us Monday nights from June 1–July 13 in the Children’s Department Family Room. Miss Heather will be there to help you get started and guide you through the process.

Already have a project you’re working on? Bring it along and enjoy stitching and socializing with others in the group! Never cross stitched before? No problem—Heather will have supplies ready and help you every step of the way.

To ensure we have enough supplies, please register in advance by calling or stopping by the Children’s Department.

On May 14, 1992, there was a fire at the Hawkeye TV & Appliance Store located at 215 W. 2nd Street. The fire was contained to the warehouse at the rear of the building. A few days later a ballast was listed as the cause of the fire. As interesting as this may be, what I like about the photos is you can see what the block of buildings at the corner of Chestnut and 2nd Street looked like before they were revitalized.

The library will be closed Sunday and Monday for Memorial Day. Have a safe weekend!

Some changes are coming to Musser Public Library this summer, and we want you to hear about them from us first.
Due to funding reductions from Muscatine County and the City, we’re facing a $104,000 budget gap for FY2027. To manage it responsibly, we’ll be adjusting our hours (closing Sundays and ending weeknights at 8 PM), cancelling a few digital resources, and suspending some programs including Adult Trivia Night and Pages for All Ages.
These were not easy decisions. Every change on this list was chosen to protect what matters most — your access to core services, collections, and the staff you count on. We’ve put together a full FAQ so you know exactly what’s changing and what isn’t. Stop by the desk, or reach out to us anytime. We’re an open book. Your voice matters!
