This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and we invite our community to join us as we climb in honor and remembrance of the firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.

If you’ve driven by the fire station over the past three days, you may have noticed a large trailer parked next door and wondered what was going on!

This week, our members at the Muscatine Fire Department had the opportunity to utilize the Iowa City simulation trailer for three days of hands-on, scenario-based training. Each of our shifts had the chance to work through realistic emergency scenarios designed to challenge their assessment, decision-making, communication, and patient-care skills.

Training like this allows our crews to practice in a controlled environment, learn from one another, and continue sharpening the skills we rely on when responding to emergencies in our community.

A big thank you to the Iowa City team for bringing the simulation trailer to us and providing our members with a great training opportunity!

This September 11th, we climb for those who climbed before us. 🇺🇸🚒

Join the Muscatine Fire Department for our September 11 Stair Climb as we come together to remember and honor the 343 firefighters, 23 NYPD Officers, 37 Port Authority Police Department Officers, 8 Volunteer/EMS personnel, and 1 New York Fire Patrol Member, who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

Friday, Aug. 7, our crews at Station One took part in a precision aerial training exercise using Truck 310. Firefighters practiced placing a cone onto targets positioned at multiple elevations around the station—an engaging way to sharpen the skills needed during real emergency responses. Proud of the teamwork and focus shown by everyone involved.

The newest members of the Muscatine Fire Department participated in search‑and‑rescue training on Tuesday, August 4, at the Fire Station 2 Training Center. Crews advanced through a smoke‑filled corridor that extended into two apartment‑style rooms (photos 1–2), allowing firefighters to practice victim‑location techniques under low‑visibility conditions.

Training instructors monitored each team’s movement using a thermal imaging camera (photo 3) as firefighters navigated the environment and located the simulated victim (photo 4). Upon completion, personnel assembled with instructors (photo 5) for a structured review of the exercise, discussing tactics, addressing questions, and identifying opportunities to strengthen future search operations.

The Muscatine Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Spencer Ripperger to Battalion Chief and Nate Paxston to Lieutenant, effective August 1.

Both have shown outstanding dedication to serving Muscatine and strengthening the safety of our neighborhoods. A pinning ceremony will be scheduled soon so our community can celebrate their achievements together.

The Muscatine Fire Department proudly welcomed three new firefighters during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting as they recited their Oath of Office with Mayor Brad Bark.

Please join us in welcoming Will Zamastil, Daniel Hicks, and Ty Wright — greeted with support from fellow firefighters, council members, and their families. Moments like this show the strength of our community and the dedication of those who choose to serve it.

After nearly three years of anticipation, the Muscatine Fire Department has strengthened its emergency response capabilities with the arrival of a new fire truck. Built by Reliant Fire Apparatus, Inc., the truck was demonstrated to each shift this week to ensure crews are fully prepared to operate its advanced safety features. This new apparatus replaces a 1993 truck that served Muscatine for 33 years, enhancing the department’s ability to protect residents and respond quickly when seconds matter.
