Nitrate City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire yesterday at approximately 11:50 AM, along with our mutual aid department, Brick Hatton Volunteer Fire Department.

Upon arrival at approximately 11:55 AM, crews encountered heavy smoke showing from the residence. Firefighters quickly initiated an interior attack and were able to locate and extinguish the fire. Due to the quick actions of responding crews, the fire damage was contained to a single bedroom, though smoke damage extended throughout the residence.

We appreciate the teamwork and dedication displayed by all responding personnel.

When a fire impacts a home, smoke inhalation is one of the leading dangers to both people and pets. Standard oxygen masks designed for humans do not properly fit an animal’s snout, making it difficult to effectively administer oxygen in an emergency.

We would like to thank Dalton Pharmacy for donating pet oxygen masks to our department. These masks will help our firefighters provide lifesaving care to pets during fire and smoke emergencies.
