Our fall sports seasons are quickly approaching, and Muscle Shoals Parks & Recreation is looking for some extra hands to help make game days a success!

We are currently looking for part-time workers to assist with:

With soccer, volleyball, flag football, and tackle football seasons right around the corner, we have plenty of opportunities to get involved!

Muscle Shoals City Council Meeting Recap – August 17, 2026

💼 Human Resources Director Addison Raines presented a proposed compensation plan for non-public safety City employees. The plan is designed to establish a more consistent, market-based pay structure while supporting employee recruitment and retention. Under the proposal, every eligible employee would receive at least a 2% increase. The Council will continue reviewing the proposal before taking further action.

🌳 Mayor Billy Hudson presented a proposed plan for future recreation improvements throughout Muscle Shoals, including potential upgrades at Sportsplex Drive, Steenson Hollow, and Gattman Park.

🏡 The Council approved the updated fee schedule for short-term residential rentals, continuing the implementation of the City’s short-term rental regulations.

🚗 The Council approved an ordinance establishing parking restrictions within the City of Muscle Shoals. The new ordinance will take effect in 30 days.

🛣️ The Council approved the City’s transportation plan for Fiscal Year 2027, as required under the Rebuild Alabama Act. The plan includes milling and resurfacing Harding Avenue from 6th Street to Avalon Avenue.

📍 Two rezoning requests, one at the corner of Ford Avenue and Ford Street and another at 510 Pilgrim Avenue, were scheduled for public hearings on September 8.

🎗️ The Council also shared plans to recognize Su***de Awareness Month in September with a ceremony honoring Alabama veterans lost to su***de. Additional details, including the date of the ceremony, will be shared once finalized.

⭐️ Business Spotlight | Skylar’s Skoops

Skylar’s Skoops was created from a love of ice cream — and the memories that come with it.

Owners Derek and Skylar grew up with an ice cream shop in their hometown in California, where they made memories taking their daughter after school, practices, and games. When they moved to the Shoals, they wanted to create something similar: a place where families, friends, and even teams could gather, enjoy a treat, and make sweet memories together.
