NACOLG is currently accepting applications for a full-time Community Ombudsman within our Department of Aging Services.

This rewarding position serves as an advocate for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities, helping to address concerns, protect resident rights, and improve quality of life for older adults throughout our region.

Salary Range: $50,627.20 – $78,020.80

Qualified applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a health-related or social science field and at least one year of professional experience working with older adults. Community Ombudsman experience and public sector experience are preferred.

Today we’re highlighting the Waterloo Senior Center a special place where seniors come together for friendship, fellowship, meals, activities, and community connection each day.

Senior Centers like Waterloo play an important role in helping older adults stay active, engaged, and connected while creating lasting friendships and support systems throughout our communities. We are thankful for all they do to serve Lauderdale County seniors!

This meeting will provide residents, businesses, and community stakeholders an opportunity to learn more about the proposed project, ask questions, and provide input during the planning process.

Representatives from NACOLG, Volkert, and the Shoals Area MPO will be available to discuss the project and receive comments from the public.

Written comments may be submitted by mail or email through June 10, 2026.

Congratulations to the Town of Lynn and Town of Bear Creek on being awarded $350,000 in Rebuild Alabama Grants!

Thank you to Alabama Department of Transportation for providing this incredible funding opportunity to help support our local communities and infrastructure improvements.

We still have 2 more award notices before the next application cycle in December, stay tuned!

What a rootin’ tootin’ good time we had today at Senior Citizens Appreciation Day!

From western wear to wonderful memories, today was all about celebrating the amazing seniors across our region. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make this year’s SCAD such a special event!

We appreciate Congressman Robert Aderholt’s support and his comments regarding Tuesday night’s public involvement meeting for the proposed Sheffield railroad overpass project.

Thank you to everyone who attended, reviewed the plans, and shared feedback as we continue working toward a project that will improve safety, traffic flow, and economic development in the area. We look forward to the next phase of progress!

I’m glad to see such a good public meeting Tuesday night in Sheffield regarding the proposed railroad overpass project. It was encouraging for the community to have the opportunity to review the plans and hear about the progress being made.

I’m also pleased that the federal funding I helped secure for the first phase of the project is being put to use. This project has the potential to improve safety, traffic flow, and economic development in the area, and I look forward to continuing to work with all of the involved parties to help move the project forward.
