International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) for 2026 was observed on Monday, May 4th. This day is set aside to honor the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of firefighters worldwide. It is a day to remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty, educate the public on fire safety, and express gratitude to current and past fire service members.

On-shift members from TCFD were honored by receiving free haircuts provided by Stylists from HAVEN SALON + SPA in Muskego (located at S76W17789 Janesville Road).

Thank you ladies for remembering Firefighters on this day and providing free cuts to our firehouse!!

đźš’ As we move into March, the Fire Department would like to thank our residents for their continued support. Warmer weather is just around the corner, and with the changing seasons comes new safety reminders and community activities. Our members remain committed to protecting life and property while continuing training to better serve the community.đźš’

⏰ Daylight Saving Time Reminder

Daylight Saving Time begins in March. (This Sunday - March 8th) When you set your clocks forward, remember to:

Test your smoke detectors

Replace batteries if needed

Check carbon monoxide detectors

Review your home fire escape plan

Working smoke alarms significantly increase the chances of safely escaping a home fire.

🌬 Spring Safety Tips

As warmer weather approaches and outdoor activities increase, please remember the following safety tips:

Outdoor Burning

Check local regulations before starting any outdoor burn.

Never leave fires unattended.

Keep a hose or water source nearby.

Grilling Safety

Keep grills at least 10 feet away from structures.

Clean grease buildup regularly.

Never grill indoors or inside garages.

Severe Weather Awareness
Spring storms can develop quickly. Stay weather aware and have a plan for where to go during severe weather warnings.

We are proud to serve this community and appreciate the continued support from our residents. Whether it's a wave as we pass by on a call or engagement at community events, your support means a great deal to our members.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of our brothers and sisters at the South Shore Fire Department on the sudden passing of one of their own. Rest easy brother.

We are heartbroken to share the unexpected active duty passing of Firefighter/EMT Robert Berens, who faithfully served the South Shore Fire Department for 36 years. His dedication, courage, and commitment to our community will never be forgotten.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time. Please keep the Berens family, his brothers and sisters in the fire service, and all who knew and loved him in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

🧊🚒 Ice Rescue Training in Action 🚒🧊

This week, new members of our department participated in hands-on ice rescue training to sharpen the skills needed for one of the most dangerous environments we operate in — frozen waterways.

Ice incidents are unpredictable and extremely hazardous. Training like this ensures our crews are prepared to respond quickly, safely, and effectively if someone falls through the ice. Firefighters practiced victim approach techniques, proper use of rescue equipment, self-rescue methods, and coordinated team operations in cold-water conditions.

While we hope we never have to use these skills, being ready is part of our commitment to keeping our community safe year-round.

⚠️ Ice Safety Reminder: No ice is ever 100% safe. Please use caution near ponds, lakes, and rivers, and keep pets and children away from questionable ice.

Stay safe, and thank you for your continued support!

As we close out the first month of the year, we want to share a snapshot of how your fire department has been serving the community in January. Even in the coldest part of the year, our crews remain busy responding to a wide range of calls and helping keep our residents safe.

January by the Numbers — 212 Total Calls for Service

Here’s how those calls broke down:

Rescue / EMS Calls: 173
Fire Related (Alarms / Fires): 14
Motor Vehicle Accidents: 3
Gas Leaks: 3
Mutual Aid to an Outside Community: 3
Miscellaneous Calls for Service: 9

Total calls for 2026: 212

*What These Numbers Mean*

The majority of our responses continue to be medical emergencies, which make up over 80% of our call volume. From falls and illnesses to life-threatening emergencies, our firefighters are also highly trained paramedics and EMTs, ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

The 14 fire-related calls include both actual fires and alarm activations. While many alarms turn out to be accidental, we treat every one as the real thing. These responses are critical because early notification and rapid response are what prevent small problems from becoming major losses.

Gas leaks, though few in number, are taken extremely seriously. If you ever smell natural gas in your home, leave immediately and call 911 from outside.

Winter Safety Reminder ❄️

January’s cold weather brings additional risks:

-Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn

-Never use ovens or grills to heat your home

-Check that vents and exhaust pipes are clear of snow

-Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries

We’re Here 24/7

Every call—whether it’s a medical emergency, alarm activation, accident, or safety concern—receives the same professional response from our staff.

Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe, stay warm, and don’t hesitate to call us when you need us.

As we wrap up another year, we want to take a moment to reflect on 2025 and say thank you to the entire Muskego community.

This year brought a significant increase in call volume, keeping our firefighters and EMS providers busier than ever. From medical calls and vehicle accidents to fires and public assists, our members answered the call—day and night, in all conditions—always with professionalism, compassion, and dedication.

An increase in calls means greater demand on our personnel, equipment, and training, but it also reinforces why we do what we do. We’re proud of the teamwork, resilience, and commitment shown by our department throughout the year, and we’re grateful for the support of our families, mutual aid partners, and the community we serve.

As we look ahead to the new year, we remain committed to protecting lives and property while continuing to train, adapt, and grow to meet the needs of our community.

From all of us at the Tess Corners Fire Department—thank you for your continued trust and support. We wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy New Year. 🚒🔥
