The OSB Teens for Christ group gathered and led a See You at the Pole assembly on Wednesday morning before school at the OSB flagpole. Many staff members, students and community heroes attended. The students did a wonderful job with their speeches, devotionals and songs! Later that evening, Mr. and Mrs. Butler took the HS students that wanted to attend, to Saw You at the Pole at the community gathering at Muskogee First Baptist Church.

Tuesday night the residential students in Lowery Hall went to a local bookstore and enjoyed a stop at Starbucks during the trip! Yum! ☕️📖

The staff took the students in the A3 and B3 dorms on an outing this evening to Honor Heights Park! They enjoyed a picnic and had playtime in the park! It’s so nice getting outside and taking advantage of the cooler weather!

Some of the upper elementary students in Mrs. Leatherman’s science class made solar cookers today. They were studying about energy transfer. The Oklahoma sun was the energy source in their cookers. They assembled and cooked s’mores in their individual “ovens.” Educational and YUMMY! ☀️🍫

Last year, our senior art class at the Oklahoma School for the Blind was approached by the Tulsa Community College and the McKeon Center for the Arts to create a piece of art to exhibit at this year’s Touch the Art Gallery. They constructed a concrete backpack for TCC’s exhibit and it is currently on display.

Filled with educational tools, its weight represents the extra challenges students who are blind or have low vision may face in accessing equal educational opportunities.

This video highlights the OSB artists that created the exhibit and explains the thoughts behind the project and how it progresses to completion. Photos of the backpack exhibit are included in the comment section of this post.

The elementary and middle school students enjoyed a trip to Tulsa for the “Touch the Art” exhibit at the McKeon Center for Creativity. The guest speaker was blind artist, John Bramblitt. He spoke to students about his story and led them through a couple of painting activities. He had a Q&A time for the kids to inquire about his life and his art. The students spent some time exploring the exhibits! Wow! A museum where they actually get to TOUCH and EXPLORE the exhibits! No “Do Not Touch” signs here! They also got to explore an exhibit by one of our own OSB art classes from last year.  They watched a video on the development of the art piece and how it came to be in the museum. More on that in another post! Stay tuned!!

Some of the eighth-graders put together a snap circuit remote control car in AT class and learned to operate it. It’s called an RC Snap Rover. They really enjoyed the challenge! 🏎️
