🐾 Muskogee Public Library is proud to join our friends at Bear's Bookstore and other local businesses in supporting Paws Animal Shelter this September!

We’ll be serving as a drop-off location for gently used toys and new blankets throughout the month. 💙

We love seeing our community come together to support organizations doing such important work — and we’re honored to be a small part of celebrating Bear’s memory in such a meaningful way.

August 26: Storytime and Wellness Wednesday activities focused on healthy snacks and the importance of nourishing our bodies with healthy foods. Green Country Behavioral Health gave children the opportunity to create their own trail mix using an assortment of healthy ingredients. The Muskogee Health Department also shared a fun and informative presentation about healthy snacks and making healthy food choices.

Storytime continued the theme with books all about delicious and nutritious foods, including Lunch by Denise Fleming and Who Eats Orange? by Dianne White and Robin White. The children also enjoyed singing familiar songs such as “Apples and Bananas” and “Herman the Worm.”

All in all, it was a fun and engaging morning and a wonderful way to wrap up August’s Wellness Wednesdays! We’re excited to welcome this program back in October for even more fun, learning, and healthy activities.

Did you know weekly Storytime is about so much more than reading books?

Storytime is a time for children and families to make friends, gather together, celebrate books, and celebrate the joy of childhood through playing, singing, and learning.

While having fun, children are also building important skills like fine motor skills, phonological awareness, print knowledge—and even early MATH skills!

So, what does the librarian see in this picture?

I see a little boy who used to be shy and now has lots of friends, LOVES coming to the library, and—while playing—decided all on his own to sort the toys by color!

This is why we LOVE Library Storytime! It’s about so much more than books. It’s about building confidence, friendships, skills, and a lifelong love of learning.
