Today I had the opportunity to stop in at El Charro for a great lunch. While I was there, I was able to grab a picture with my favorite waiter, Tomas!

El Charro is a Muskogee staple and has been serving up great meals for nearly two decades. Great people, great service, and great food, now that is a winning combination!

What makes places like El Charro so special is that they represent what small business is all about. Family-run, family-owned, and built through years of hard work and dedication. That truly is the American dream, and businesses like this are an important part of what makes Muskogee special.

Thank you for having me today and for always taking such great care of me. The food and service exceeded all expectations, as always. I can’t wait to see you again!

Today I was pleased to stop by and visit Ms. Brashier at Junk 360 on Highway 69. My wife and I love shopping for antiques, and what a neat place this is!

Ms. Brashier shared with me how proud she is to welcome travelers from all over the country into her store and into our city. She cares deeply about seeing our community grow and prosper, and that is something we certainly have in common.

We had a great conversation about Muskogee, small business, and the future of our community, and of course, we received plenty of attention from the real boss, Maggie!

Thank you, Ms. Brashier, for welcoming me today, for the great conversation, and most importantly, for your investment in our community. I truly enjoyed my visit!

Today I had the opportunity to stop in and visit Arnold’s on Shawnee St. If you know anything about Muskogee, you’ve heard of Arnold’s!

From fresh produce and seed to jams, jellies, and so much more, Arnold’s has it all. But what makes this place truly special is the family behind it. They don’t just own the business, they work side by side every day, carrying on a tradition that dates back to 1964.

When we talk about supporting small businesses, this is what it’s all about: taking pride in what you do, standing behind what you sell, working hard, and serving your community. Arnold’s is true grassroots small business at its best.

Thank you so much for having me today and for the warm welcome. And by the way, the pickled okra was fantastic!

We had a wonderful time last week attending the Back-to-School Bash hosted by Alexis Gunn! It was so great to see so many smiling faces and families receiving school supplies, free haircuts, snacks, and plenty of encouragement as they prepare for a new school year.

This is what community looks like, neighbors coming together, supporting one another, and making a difference. I couldn’t be more proud of ours!

Today, I had the privilege of being invited by senior staff officials to tour Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee.

We began our visit with a meaningful conversation about community relationships and their vision for the future of healthcare in our community. Their commitment to providing high quality, compassionate care was evident from the very beginning.

We finished the visit with a tour of the hospital, where I had the opportunity to see some of the new, cutting-edge technology that is helping keep more advanced care right here at home.

My visit was nothing short of amazing. I left incredibly excited about the future of healthcare in our community and proud of our local healthcare system and the dedicated people who make it possible.

Thank you to the entire Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee team for the warm welcome and for taking the time to share your vision with me.

As I drive around the city, it’s easy for me to notice properties that don’t reflect the vision I have for our community. But I also believe in giving credit where credit is due.

Every time I drive past this property, it puts a smile on my face.

I don’t know the owners or anyone who works here, but I hope this somehow reaches them. I want you to know how much I appreciate the pride you take in the appearance of your business. The care and attention you put into your property doesn’t just reflect well on your business, it reflects well on our entire community.

Thank you for caring, for taking pride in what you have, and for making our city a little better and more beautiful. It does not go unnoticed.

“Stopped in at Mike’s Outdoors last night to grab some fishing tackle. Small businesses are the backbone of America, and I’m proud to support ours locally. Mike’s Outdoors has been around for as long as I can remember, and it’s a great example of what hard work, dedication, and taking care of your customers can build.

And by the way, the new lures worked! Caught a few on them last night!”

Everyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about shopping locally. Every dollar we invest in our community has the opportunity to come back to our community. A dollar spent locally can have an economic impact between $6-$8.

When discussions began about replacing police cars that were at the end of life, I expressed how important it was to keep our money local whenever possible. The police department leadership agreed.

At the same time, being good stewards of our taxpayers’ money is extremely important to me. I stressed that I wanted our local dealers to have the opportunity to bid on these vehicles, as long as they could be competitive with the state bid.

I am so happy to announce that we got it done, and we are keeping those dollars right here in Muskogee!

Even more importantly, Mr. Hodge and the Hodge family have given back to our youth and our community more times than I can count. The Hodge family is Muskogee, and I am proud that we have the opportunity to do business locally with James Hodge Ford.

At our Public Works meeting Monday night, our Chief of Police stated that in his 39-year career, this is the first time the department has been able to purchase these vehicles locally. That makes this accomplishment even more meaningful.

I tip my hat to everyone involved who helped make this happen. Supporting local businesses, being responsible with taxpayer dollars, and investing back into the community we all call home, that’s a win for Muskogee.

Here’s to a better Muskogee!
