🔥 August 22 Weekly Wildfire Situation Report 🔥

Last week, state and county firefighters responded to 83 fires across Montana, which burned 17,300 acres. Firefighters from all agencies have responded to 1,359 fires since the start of the year, for a total of 71,341 acres burned. The Northern Rockies and National Preparedness levels remain at a 3.

While some areas may receive a slight respite from fire weather this week with some rain in the forecast, fire danger remains high due to predicted high levels of lightning. Please help our firefighters focus on potential lightning ignitions by doing your part to prevent human-caused wildfires. This means always making sure your campfire is dead out, safely securing your towing chains before driving, and knowing local fire restrictions before recreating or burning. Check https://www.mtfireinfo.org/pages/restrictions before heading outdoors.

UPDATE: currently the fire is still active. We have personnel working on backburning some areas so you will still see some smoke from that and what is still burning on the interior of the fire. As of right now there is fire line 100% arou d the fire with 13,000 plus acers lost to the fire. It will still be a few days before the fire is concidered 100% contained. Any residence that were evacuated have been allowed back to their homes a couple days ago. As always we will keep you informed on new I formation about this fire when we find out more. Thank you everyone for your help and continued support.

UPDATE: Currently the fire has reached about 12,883 acres. We have air support and many other agencies helping out right now. Sounds like they have a good handle on the fire and are working hard at getting it 100% contained.

UPDATE: With the weather/fire being unpredictable all residents will need to stay away from Sumatra Rd. For the night. More updates about the evacuation notice will be given in the morning. Ingomar Rd. Is also shut down for the time being.

UPDATE: Right now we have multiple agencies assisting with the fire and it has jumped ingomar road in a couple areas. We will provide updates on this post when we can. Thank you for your patience it is greatly appreciated.

ATTENTION!!!! FIRE!!!!! Anyone in the Sumatra road area is being requested to evacuate. The community center is open for those being displaced due to the fire.

UNLESS YOU ARE ESSENTIAL PERSONELL PLEASE STAY AWAY.

Thank you and updates will follow.

All that spring rain left us with plenty of tall, and quickly drying grass. Clearing out grass and other dry vegetation from around homes and structures is a great way to reduce wildfire risk – but just one small spark from a lawnmower blade hitting a rock can ignite dry grass. Before mowing, walk the area you are planning to tackle and remove rocks or other debris that may spark a fire if struck with a mower blade.

The potential for severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain will continue Friday, though the greatest risk of severe storms is in central and northeast Montana. Stay weather aware and plan accordingly!
