Busy Weekend for the Keystone.

Thank you to everyone who supported/attended our Annual East End Fire Companies Annual Gun/Cash Raffle on Friday night and Saturday. It was a very successful event! A majority of the department was at the event while a crew stayed in town to staff the Tower. A couple calls were handled by them with the assistance of E32 from Station 32.

Today crews were out along 422 for the Annual Ride For Wise. Neptune Fire Company also joined us in supporting this annual event.

This morning, shortly after 5:30 am, Station 31 was dispatched to assist Station 32 with a barn fire in the 100 Block of E. Rosebud Rd. Crews arrived to find a well-off working barn fire.

Engine 31 laid a supply line in to supply Squad 40, Tower 31 followed Engine 32 in the second driveway to set up for aerial operations, and Wagon 31 set up as the dump site engine at the end of the lane.

The fire was contained to the bank barn; crews were on the scene for several hours extinguishing hotspots as they worked at removing hay from the barn with an excavator.

Thank you to Berks Ladder 47 and Weavertown Squad 28 for standing by at the Keystone while our crews were out.

2 Silo Fires in 1 Week

Wednesday Morning Tower 31 along with Wagon and Rescue 31 were dispatched to assist Berks Station 28 with a Silo Fire in Tulpehocken Twp.

Yesterday alittle before 4pm members received a direct call from a farm on Royers Rd in the Twp. He believed he had a small fire in the unloading chute. Engine,Tower and Rescue 31 made the response. Special Operations 33 was also requested. Asst.31 arrrived to find a 92 by 18 poured concrete silo with nothing showing. Power was secured, the Silo had been loaded about half full a few days prior and covered. Apparatus arrived and positioned, and after discussing it over with the farmer, crews accessed the unloading chute with a booster line and extinguished the fire which fortunately was small and not very far up. Crews used the long air lines from 33 and the Tower crew checked the entire chute with thermal imaging to make sure no hot spots remained.

Feed in the silo was not affected. Having local experts and members with years of experience dealing with Silos allows us to be very skilled at keeping these types of incidents minor in nature if caught early.

Thanks to Neptune Fire Company for assisting.

The Snow is about to start flying tonight, below are a few good reminders to keep in mind as we navigate through the next 48hrs. Adopt a fire hydrant thats close to your house and shovel it out after the storm. Clear around vents and gas meters around your house and check on your neighbors.

The Keystone will be staffed with volunteers starting tonight through Monday morning so we can quickly respond to any emergencies that may arise. Please PLEASE stay home if you don’t need to be out.

Thankyou to the folks who have dropped off drinks and snacks for our members already. Not necessary, but always appreciated.
