Myrtle Beach’s Friendship Team is getting ready for Memorial Day weekend! 🌊☀️

Captain Aaron Miller with the Myrtle Beach Police Department led the volunteer training Tuesday, covering the “dos and don’ts” of the program. Friendship Team volunteers help welcome visitors, provide directions and answer general questions along Ocean Boulevard during the busy holiday weekend. All volunteers must attend one training session. The next session is at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 21, at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center.

Join Myrtle Beach’s Friendship Team for Memorial Day weekend. We need volunteers to walk Ocean Boulevard to welcome visitors, assist with directions and answer general questions during the busy holiday weekend. Volunteers can choose the hours and day(s) they work Friday through Sunday, May 22-24. Below are the available times. To sign up, call 843-918-1062, by Friday, May 15. Volunteers must be 18 or older. The Myrtle Beach Police Department will provide a training session for volunteers detailing “dos and don’ts” while participating in this volunteer program. You can volunteer on the following days.

• Friday, May 22 – 6 to 10 p.m.
• Saturday, May 23 – 2 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m.
• Sunday, May 24 – 2 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m.

Each volunteer must participate in one of the training sessions below. To schedule your session, call 843-918-1062 or email [email protected].

Mark your calendar for the City of Myrtle Beach’s annual Juneteenth celebration!

Bring your whole family to enjoy live performances from the “100 Grand Band,” “Painted Man Band,” Conway High Gold Smoove Drum Line, Coastal High Dance Team and Myrtle Beach Middle Dance Team. Expect food and craft vendors along with a kids’ fun zone from 2 to 7 p.m., Saturday June 20, at Charlie’s Place, 1420 Carver Street. Bring a lawn chair and join us for a day of freedom, unity and community! For more information, call 843-918-1062. (Note: If weather is poor, the celebration will be moved indoors to Mary C. Community members gathered Thursday evening at Plyler Park for the annual National Day of Prayer ceremony, joining together in reflection, faith and unity. Local leaders representing various faiths offered prayers for the city, community, government, businesses, families, youth, health, law enforcement and education. The event featured live performances by local churches and youth. The annual ceremony provided an opportunity for residents to come together in support of one another and the Myrtle Beach community.

We asked you to dust off your dancing shoes for Jazz and Music in the Park...and you delivered! A crowd turned out Sunday at Grand Park in The Market Common, filling the evening with rhythm, energy and community spirit.

Say Cheese!
We can't wait to see the smiles from Myrtle Beach High School students at the free Community Prom Pictures event. The photo shoot is from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday April 24, at Charlie's Place, 1420 Carver Street. Registration is not required. Just show up, pose and smile. The city’s Neighborhood Services Department and Nana’s Hope House sponsor the event. For more information, call 843-918-1062.

Jazz & Music in the Park returns to The Market Common this month. The event is from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 26, at Grand Park, 1119 Farrow Parkway. Myrtle Beach’s Neighborhood Services Department sponsors the free concert, featuring Tamir Mubarak and Company, Peeples Project and the Socastee High School Jazz Band. Bring a beach chair or blanket to relax and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere. If the weather is unfavorable, the event will be held at the General Robert H. Reed Recreation Center, 800 Gabreski Lane. For more information, call 843-918-1062.
