The MB Fire Cares nonprofit foundation is donating $5,500 to the City’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial fund. This donation is from the sales of our military appreciation t-shirts. Thank you to everyone that bought shirts, but more importantly thank you to our veterans and those that served in Vietnam.

The City’s Public Works team will begin taking down Myrtle Beach’s military banners next week. With peak hurricane season approaching, the banners must be removed to help prevent potential damage from strong winds and severe weather.

Applicants can pick up their keepsake from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday, September 16, through Friday, October 2, at City Hall, 937 Broadway Street.

The application portal will open again in early 2027. Thank you to our veterans and military members for your service and sacrifice to our country! 🇺🇸

Looking ahead…

Everyone is invited to Myrtle Beach’s September 11 Remembrance Ceremony. The event is 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, at the Unity Memorial in Warbird Park, 150 Farrow Parkway. This will mark 25 years since the terrorist attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives.

Free parking is available at Warbird Park. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the General Robert H. Reed Recreation Center, 800 Gabreski Lane.

The City of Myrtle Beach extends a heartfelt "thank you" to Pinnacle Bank for its generous $50,000 donation to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, Pinnacle Bank representatives Tommy Chapin and Aaron McKnight presented the donation, which will help pay for the memorial's three life-sized bronze soldier statues.

The statues are expected to be completed and installed in time for Veterans Day this year.

Thank you, Pinnacle Bank, for helping honor the men and women who served our country. 🇺🇸

See you next time, Field of Honor®!🇺🇸

Volunteers and Myrtle Beach Public Works carefully took down the Field of Honor® this morning following the holiday weekend. The crews carefully took down all 250 American flags and historical tags that have been flying in the field next to Warbird Park since May. The flags will be stored until their next appearance that will be announced at a later date.

Thanks to the volunteers and Public Works staff who helped make this display memorable for America's 250th birthday!

Exciting news! The plane repainting at Warbird Park is complete and the roundabout parking lot will reopen today, June 16.

The planes were stripped, washed and repainted this year as part of Myrtle Beach's continued effort to preserve military history. The monuments need a bit of extra love every few years to help battle typical outdoor wear and tear. The roundabout parking lot was closed while work was underway, but is now open for business!

The quote for the new Vietnam Veterans' Memorial has been installed! 🇺🇸

Earlier this week, the quote from President Jimmy Carter was added to the memorial. Carter shared these words in July 1980 when signing legislation related to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial visitor center:

"In honoring those who answered the call of duty we do not honor war, but we honor the peace they sought, the freedoms they fought to preserve, and the hope that they held out to a world that's still struggling to learn how to settle differences among people and among nations without resorting to violence."

The addition of this quote further strengthens the memorial's message of honoring the service, sacrifice and legacy of Vietnam War veterans. This tribute serves as a lasting reminder of the courage and dedication of those who answered the call to serve. The final pieces of the monument are the soldier sculptures. They will be ready and installed later this year.
