Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! 🎉

Last Thursday, teams from across the district (all 209 employees) came together at South Umpqua High School to connect, learn, celebrate, and plan for the year ahead. 🤩

Superintendent Bare offered encouraging words: “Behind successful students are all of you!” She also shared that every person in our school system is an educator and plays an important role in student success.

Teams also learned how they can get involved with the district’s Wellness Committee. They also heard about the support provided by the South Umpqua School Foundation, which has been enriching student learning since 2005 through generous fundraising efforts.

A huge thank-you to Sodexo for fueling us with breakfast and to our dedicated facilities team for making sure everything was ready behind the scenes.

Together, let’s unlock the unlimited potential of our students. We look forward to partnering with our incredible students, families, and community throughout the year! ❤️

Learning doesn’t always happen in a classroom! ☀️

This summer, five Coffenberry Middle School students traveled to San Antonio, Texas, to represent Oregon FBLA at the national conference. They competed in two team presentation events against students from across the country while developing skills in communication, teamwork and leadership.

Beyond the competition, students participated in leadership workshops, team-building activities and networking opportunities. They met students from across the country, built confidence, made new friendships and gained experiences that will stay with them for years to come.

A special thank you to everyone who supported the students through their fundraising efforts. Your generosity helped make this incredible learning experience possible!

We’re also grateful to FBLA advisors Sandy Osborne and Katie Dugus for their time, encouragement and dedication to helping these students prepare for their futures.

A special thank you to our education team: teachers, instructional assistants, office teams, custodial teams and nutrition teams for helping make this experience welcoming and successful for students.

Words of immense thanks!

There’s something special about seeing community members come together to make sure students have what they need to start the school year strong.

South Umpqua School District is grateful to Williams Repair & Roadside LLC and Cozy Cravings LLC for organizing the Stuff the Truck Back-to-School Supply Drive and donating 60 backpacks and school supplies. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important cause. Acts of kindness like this reflect the strength of our community and our shared commitment to supporting students.

This generosity is going straight into the hands of local elementary students, helping them start the school year prepared, confident and ready to learn. The donations will be distributed during the first week of school to students who need a backpack or supplies.

Thank you for investing in our students and the future of our community. ❤
