It’s that time of year again!!

School is starting next week!! Please use caution during the day, especially during the morning, lunch time, and afternoon when kids are out and about. Remember that every intersection is a crosswalk!

Many school bus stops don't require the bus to activate its warning lights, however, you should still use caution when passing a stopped school bus on the side of the road.

The attached picture is to remind drivers when they are required to stop. Unless there is a barrier or an unpaved median (5 feet or more in width), all vehicles must stop. Not stopping for a school bus with its flashing red lights activated is a Class A traffic violation. The presumptive fine is $435 for this violation.

Black Lab found near Brite Forest last night and picked up at Fat Albert’s. Has a Carhartt collar, but no tags.

Please contact dispatch at 541-269-8911 x1 to arrange pickup at the Myrtle Point Police Department.

If the dog is not claimed today, it will be taken to the Coos County Animal Shelter.

🚧🚧🚧 Residential Fair Parking Barricades 🚧🚧🚧

🎡 It's almost Coos County Fair time! 🐎

Make sure you go to the City of Myrtle Point to get your barricades reserved! It is very important if you have street only parking near the fairgrounds!!

Information for this year's barricade rental:

💵 A $10 deposit is required for each pair of barricades. $5 is refundable when the barricades are returned to the City, so please return them in a timely manner.

🚧 Please place barricades to reserve only ONE (1) 20-foot parking space.

⚠️ Barricades should be placed no more that 5 feet from the curb.

✅ Barricades shall be placed perpendicular to the curb. (CMP fronts face traffic)

‼️ Only authorized barricades will be allowed in the street and enforced. Any other items will be removed.

🚫 🚧 Reminder to Fair and Rodeo patrons, street parking that is barricaded using City of Myrtle Point ("CMP") barricades are reserved for the residence adjacent to the barricades due to limited off-street parking. Any vehicle that is not authorized to park in a residential barricaded area will be towed at the vehicle owners expense. 🚧 🚫

Found dog on Reedsford Road. Older Chihuahua possibly partially blind and deaf.

***UPDATE***

The City of Myrtle Point and Myrtle Point Fire Department now have a limited quantity of bicycle helmets that were donated by PeaceHeath Riverbend Hospital after the EMT’s and Paramedics attended trauma and injury prevention training. They are FREE to kids that need helmets.

If your child is in need of a bicycle helmet, you can stop by City Hall or the Myrtle Point Fire Station during business hours.

Quantity is limited and sizes are limited as well.

☀️ With the summer months fast approaching, the Myrtle Point Police Department would like to remind everyone of important information regarding bicycles and e-bikes.

🚴 We have noticed a lot of kids (under 16 years old) riding without helmets, which is concerning due to the severe bike crashes we have responded to in the last couple of years. Parents, please have your riders wear helmets. We may have to start cracking down on violations. (ORS 814.485, $25 fine)

🔋 We have also noticed more e-bikes being operated in the City. Please know the current laws regarding e-bikes, specifically the classifications and rider requirements.

⚠ All e-bike operators must be 16 years or older to operate on public right-of-ways and it is HIGHLY recommended to wear a helmet while operating. E-bikes cannot be operated on the sidewalks. All e-bikes in these classifications should have a motor output of 1,000 watts or less and be equipped with functional pedals.

1️⃣ Class 1 - Provides assistance only when rider is pedaling and stops assisting at 20 MPH.

2️⃣ Class 2 - Can be propelled by the motor without pedal assistance and stops assisting at 20 MPH.

3️⃣ Class 3 - Provides assistance only when rider is pedaling and stops assisting at 28 MPH. Must be equipped with a speedometer.

🚳 Any "e-bike" that is throttle only is not a legal e-bike in the State of Oregon and cannot be operated on public right-of-ways.

The ultimate goal is for everyone to be safe and legal while having fun on their bicycles and e-bikes! Feel free to ask us if you have any questions!

⚠ ***Phone Scam Alert*** ☎️

Good morning citizens of Myrtle Point! The Myrtle Point Police Department received information this morning of a new phone scam going around.

An unknown person is spoofing the Myrtle Point Police Department's phone number (541-572-2124), making it seem like a call is coming from us. The individual will attempt scare tactics such as advising that you have warrants or you have fines to pay. Hang up and let us know if this happens to you. As always, ANY call where someone asks for you to pay in GIFT CARDS is 1000% a SCAM.

The Myrtle Point Police Department will not tell you about warrants over the phone. We also do not process "fines" over the phone.

Luckily, most of you know who our Officers are, but if you have any questions regarding a phone call, please let us know.

***Fire Department Training***

See below for information on the controlled burn scheduled for tonight, in town, near the S-Curves.

Tonight, (Thursday 5/14) at roughly 7PM, the Myrtle Point Fire Dept will be conducting live fire training in the 1000 block of Roseburg Road in Myrtle Point. This address is inside the city, between Dollar General and Pete’s Superior Collision repair. We will be burning an older, small barn. This burn provides us with the opportunity for our volunteer firefighters to sharpen their firefighting skills as well as pump operation and water supply.
