๐Ÿšฒ ***Bicycle Safety and Information*** โ˜€๏ธ

โ˜€๏ธ With the summer months fast approaching, the Myrtle Point Police Department would like to remind everyone of important information regarding bicycles and e-bikes.

๐Ÿšด We have noticed a lot of kids (under 16 years old) riding without helmets, which is concerning due to the severe bike crashes we have responded to in the last couple of years. Parents, please have your riders wear helmets. We may have to start cracking down on violations. (ORS 814.485, $25 fine)

๐Ÿ”‹ We have also noticed more e-bikes being operated in the City. Please know the current laws regarding e-bikes, specifically the classifications and rider requirements.

โš  All e-bike operators must be 16 years or older to operate on public right-of-ways and it is HIGHLY recommended to wear a helmet while operating. E-bikes cannot be operated on the sidewalks. All e-bikes in these classifications should have a motor output of 1,000 watts or less and be equipped with functional pedals.

1๏ธโƒฃ Class 1 - Provides assistance only when rider is pedaling and stops assisting at 20 MPH.

2๏ธโƒฃ Class 2 - Can be propelled by the motor without pedal assistance and stops assisting at 20 MPH.

3๏ธโƒฃ Class 3 - Provides assistance only when rider is pedaling and stops assisting at 28 MPH. Must be equipped with a speedometer.

๐Ÿšณ Any "e-bike" that is throttle only is not a legal e-bike in the State of Oregon and cannot be operated on public right-of-ways.

The ultimate goal is for everyone to be safe and legal while having fun on their bicycles and e-bikes! Feel free to ask us if you have any questions!

***Fire Department Training***

See below for information on the controlled burn scheduled for tonight, in town, near the S-Curves.

๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Tonight, (Thursday 5/14) at roughly 7PM, the Myrtle Point Fire Dept will be conducting live fire training in the 1000 block of Roseburg Road in Myrtle Point. This address is inside the city, between Dollar General and Peteโ€™s Superior Collision repair. We will be burning an older, small barn. This burn provides us with the opportunity for our volunteer firefighters to sharpen their firefighting skills as well as pump operation and water supply. Just trying to get the word out a bit as smoke will be highly visible in the area during the training event. City of Myrtle Point. Myrtle Point Police Department

The Myrtle Point Police Department would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to our awesome 911 Telecommunicators at North Coos 911 (Coos Bay Police Department )!

Every year during the second full week of April, we celebrate and thank all of those who have stepped up to the mic and serve the public every day. 911 Operators and Dispatchers are the "unseen heroes" of the public safety world. They are the true first responders when someone calls 911. Emergency services rely on their information and ability to multi-task to send them in the right direction, request additional assets, and of course, keep EVERYONE safe.

This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriffโ€™s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.

If you know someone in the profession, let it be known they are appreciated!

๐Ÿˆ It's Game Day!!

๐ŸŽ‰ Just a small reminder to eat some good snacks, enjoy the game, and have fun with your friends and family!

๐Ÿป If there is drinking involved with any of those activities, please, do NOT drive! It is not worth ruining game day with a DUII or worse. ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿš“

Thereโ€™s no need to consult the playbook. ๐Ÿ“– The winning play always involves designating a sober driver. ๐Ÿ† Fans Donโ€™t Let Fans Drive Drunk.

Hi All! Several people have asked where they can dispose of their Christmas tree. We have coned off a spot in our fire station parking lot located at 320 5th Street. Please just bring it to the station, throw it out in this coned off area, and we will take it from there! Most trees are getting fairly dried out by now and should be removed from the home to help prevent fires! If you are unable to haul it to the station, maybe the neighbor could help?!? But if not, and you are desperate for someone to come and get it, please text or call 541-435-8143. Hope you all have a great year!! City of Myrtle Point Myrtle Point Police Department
