Hello Chinook Pass,
The Yakima County Fire Marshal’s Office has put in place a full county wide burn restriction beginning June 1 and ending August 31.

The following are the details of the Burn Restriction as issued by the Yakima County Fire Marshal’s Office:

YAKIMA, WA – In partnership with the Yakima County Fire Chiefs Association, the Yakima County Fire Marshal has issued an annual burn restriction for unincorporated Yakima County effective Monday, June 1, through Monday, August 31. During this period, residential outdoor burning of non-recreational materials is prohibited.

The annual burn restriction is established under Yakima County Ordinance 4-2026 and will occur each year from June 1 through August 31.

According to the Yakima County Fire Marshal, the restriction applies to residential burning in unincorporated areas of Yakima County, including yard waste burning, ditch bank burning, and other private outdoor burning activities.
Agricultural field and orchard burning may be allowed with a permit from the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency (YRCAA).
Recreational fires are allowed in approved campground devices and private residential fire pits.
LPG-fueled appliances, charcoal starters, and commercially manufactured fire pits are permitted.
Residential outdoor burning in violation of the burn restrictions outlined in Ordinance 4-2026 may be subject to a civil fine of $250 for the first offense, $500 for a second offense, and $1,000 for the third offense. For information concerning agricultural burning, contact the Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency (YRCAA) at 509-834-5050 or visit www.yakimacleanair.org.

Be safe and let’s work together to mitigate fire risk in our neighborhood this year.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING SHIRT RELATED!

It appears our page is currently being visited by an unusually LARGE amount of… SPAM. 🥴📬

(And not the tasty kind fried up at deer camp.)

If you receive strange messages, suspicious links, odd friend requests, or comments pretending to be from our department — please DO NOT click on them and report them immediately.

Our crew is working to clean things up faster than a pancake breakfast line on Sunday morning. 🔥🥞

Thank you all for your patience, support, and help keeping the page safe for our community!

Good evening Chinook Pass,

As some of you know, through help from WA DNR FEPP program and a very generous donation from Matson Fruit, the got a “new to us” horse in the stable.

Tender 11, or “Aunt Mary” (named after the Matson Family matriarch) is a game changing apparatus for us. As a combination tender (water tanker) and pumper (normal fire engine) we will be able to respond faster with more water than previous. Equipped to haul water to a fire ground or engage fire with two people, it will help reshape the way we respond. Oh, and it is all wheel drive with locking differential so hauling water into forest fires or on those snowy and steep Chinook Pass driveways just got a lot safer.

Last night our officers and a few of our pump operators got training from two of the most knowledgeable pump guys in the county. Thanks Darin and Chris.

This training is a critical step in making sure we know the controls and operations of this truck like the back of our hand. It also signifies one of the final milestones before calling it “In Service”

In the long tradition of the fire service, we will be scheduling a Push In. This tradition goes back to the days of horse drawn water wagons. We will literally push and roll the truck into the station. Chinook Pass this your Fire Department and Aunt Mary is your newest tool in the battle for life and property. We invite you all to join and help push her in the station. Who wants to Join Us? We will post details in the next few weeks.

As an FYI! 🚒

🚫✈️ If you fly, we can’t.

Unauthorized drones over wildfires force firefighters to ground aircraft — delaying air drops, medevac flights, and putting lives at risk.

Recreational drone pilots: Before you fly, check for wildfires and flight restrictions. If you see smoke, don’t launch.
