Alligator nest research comes with some interesting coworkers.

Today’s crew included a garter snake and a green tree frog. Neither had much to say, but they stuck around long enough for a photo.

Attention prospective Angelina/Neches Dam B alligator hunters!

Just wanted to post an update on this year's schedule for those interested.

The overnight management hunt will take place on Thursday September 10th. Standbys will be drawn at 4:00pm (SHARP, as usual) and orientation will be held at 5:00pm. Unlike years past this hunt will only be live from the time we finish orientation until midnight.

The youth alligator hunt will begin on Saturday, Sept 12. Standbys drawn at 11:00am and orientation at 12:00pm. Youth need to be at least 8 years old and not older than 16 years to apply for standby.

The regular hook and line alligator hunt open to all will begin Monday, Sept 14. We will draw standbys for that hunt at 11:00am and hold orientation at 12:00pm.

As always, we will be at the covered shelter closest to the Walnut Ridge boat ramp at Martin Dies Jr. State Park.

You will need a valid Texas hunting license to apply for standby as well as access to a suitable boat--no canoes or inflatable boats.

Dove season opens STATEWIDE September 1 in all 3 zones, including South Texas.

No special White-winged days. No special bag limits. Thanks to healthy dove populations, we’re all going by the same playbook.

Hundreds filled the Pitser Garrison Convention Center Friday evening for the 35th annual Texas Big Game Awards, put on by the Texas Wildlife Association and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Among eight regions that cover the state, region 6 — centered on Lufkin — is home to the biggest event each year, according to TWA hunting heritage program specialist Kristin Parma. Look who’s back!

Meet 2013-26540 or “Ron” for short! 😆

This dove was banded right here in 2024 and was recaptured during this year’s banding season. Every recapture adds another piece to the puzzle, giving biologists valuable insight into dove survival and movement patterns.
