We spent the morning with Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful for the Citywide Cleanup Challenge. It was a nice cool morning to pick up trash and help beautify our community. Thank you to the volunteers who came out to help.

This past weekend I attended the annual African American Heritage Project bbq and silent auction. The fundraiser benefits the Clay House. The food was fantastic and the conversations were great! I loved seeing our community come together for such a wonderful cause.

The 1900 Clay House was saved from demolition by the African American Heritage Project in 2010 with the plan of restoring it for use as a community center and local history museum.

The Clay House is located in the Zion Hill Historic District of Nacogdoches, described by leading conservation group Preservation Texas as "one of the most intact early 20th-century African American working-class neighborhoods in Texas."
